[Albion] De Gea scuffing penalty spit

A bit telling that Solly's pen was the only one where we saw any antics from the other players. Waghorst kissing the ball before handing it to him (why are they allowed to even pick up the ball or approach the next taker after they've taken a pen?). In the meantime, when the ref's attention is distracted De Gea clearly scuffs the penalty spot. Again not sure why there isn't a rule to say keepers must stay behind the touchline during the shoot-out.

Not sure if either action affected the pen, but still...

Did it magically repair itself for Lindelofs ? S

I wish we’d shown a bit more gamesmanship but Sanchez seemed more interesting in having a bit of a laugh and joke with DDG between penalties

Should be two red cards. Same deal for running towards the ball to stop a free kick being taken. What the actual f***?

Lindelof pen was taken a good 6 inches behind the spot.

(No jokes about a good 6 inches)

…..and Spanish teammates

Interesting they were both intently studying their water bottles between kicks, and then wrapping them in a towel when they were in goal.
It's where they store their notes about penalty takers. Jordan Pickford's did the rounds a few years ago

Most keepers have a list of players and how they take their penalties on their water bottles now.

With regards to keepers approaching the penalty spot, haven’t the rules changed from next season following a certain keepers antics at the World Cup, keepers are going to be restricted to their lines and cannot approach the spot or the kicker anymore.

The trouble is a booking or red card for these things would only result in a delay in the pen being taken, increasing the liklihood of a miss. Also you might get players not caring if they are carded if it results in a missed pen.

I'd create a rule that if a keeper scuffs the penalty spot or an opposition player approaches the penalty taker, the penalty doesn't have to be taken and a goal automatically awarded.

That would immefiately put a stop to it.

Yeh we lost, but I don't really want to see us getting involved in this sort of bollocks.

If you're a player involved in a shoot out you should be 100% focussed on the task, not buggering about with penalty spots or acting like an arse.

Not sure - but it's surely necessary.

In some ways i don't mind. For Manchester United it is all about winning, and they do whatever it takes. That's their mentality, and in no small part it was the reason they won. That's the levels.
I'm over it now and seeing the positives.

They get the opportunity to be thrashed by Man City in the final, and I get the opportunity to keep my £200 (for 3 tickets) in my wallet.
