Depends on what you want them to see, I guess.

Another vote or Arundel, has the Castle, lovely shops and some nice pubs.
Petworth House?
Somewhere on the seafront - Bognor, Brighton Pier?

As its a student I would not set foot outside Brighton.
Plenty for a day out and no city in Germany like it.
Pavillion, Laines/Lanes etc Pier.
Fish and Chips (Germans dont like soggy English chips, they like them crisp unt light brown) and maybe a really good pub with some music in the evening.
If this is on a saturday, sneak into the countryside or Arundel for a Sunday lunch with some quirky Sussex folk.
Sounds like a good weekend.
If you dont succeed you may go on ze list.

I had overseas visitors over Christmas/New Year. We went to

Beachy Head/Seven Sisters (a bracing walk)
Brighton - North Laine - bit of window shopping
Canterbury (obviously not Sussex but a pretty good place to take guests)
Tunbridge Wells (ditto)
Bluebell Railway (because I like it)
Rye (climb the Church Tower, wander round the town))
Hastings Old Town

I didn't want to to traipse into London so tried to make the best of what we have locally.

Go to somewhere near Lewes with a train station such as Southease. Walk over the downs into Lewes. Have a pub lunch. Watch Lewes play at the dripping pan. If you drove to where you started get the train back.
