In a few of the Sheffield Weds celebration tweets it’s fair to say it looks like the running’s been binned off.

Well comparitively speaking l can see what the poster means, having just got himself back to the Championship he now goes and sings for a team in the National League.Fallen off a cliff? Really? OK, he's never become a world famous mega-rich superstar, but all in all he's had a pretty decent career (and still has a career).
Didn’t he want a 2 year contract as his kid was about to start GCSEs and he didn’t want to have to move them halfway through (we were only offering a 1 year contract apparently). His involvement with the club and community following the Shoreham plane crash was incredible. It's a shame he left when he did but wanted assurances of playing time as he approached some key playing years

Although still plenty good enough to play in the Football League, perhaps at 37 he is starting to look at life beyond playing football, and can presumably see a good opertunity for himself at the club where he started out.
Good luck to him anyway.

It's pretty amazing how his career has fallen off a cliff when you think he's 'only' 37 and a year younger than Fabianski.
See post #105 above - sums it up perfectly. Logical progression; late 30s, winding down, probably some element of a coaching/mentoring role. Nowt wrong with any of that.Yes. Gone from the heights of BHAFC to non league obscurity. I'm not referring to making a living out of football, but compared to Fabianski, who is older, Stockdale's career has fallen off a cliff into non league football. It's a long way down.
Nothing against the bloke, just a comment on my opinion which way his career has gone since leaving us.
He’s certainly looking “beyond his playing career” in that photo @Guinness Boy posted. He is 37 and looking beyond his playing career.
Check out his website for a more interesting reactionGood lord.
I remember seeing this when it was launched, it’s peak David Brent.Check out his website for a more interesting reaction
He seems to have made this decision more for the long term future of his family, rather than for his footballing career.Yes. Gone from the heights of BHAFC to non league obscurity.
