Didn't we play 3 up front consisting of Barnes, Murray and Wood in the season we won league one?

I'm on about when we were til down just stick him upfront with ulloa not wide he played well and looked good but please we should of gone for broke ulloa needed some help anyway
Poyet got "leeway" with us because we often played bloody glorious football under him. Oscar hasn't produced that consistently yet, but it's still early days.
Perfect example of when 4-3-3 works properly. We'd play shitloads of strikers that season, once Gus felt the defence was sorted.

I keep saying it but these boring tactics are not what got Oscar the job in the 1st place, he had a win at all cost mentality at Tel Aviv.
A Tel Aviv fan told me it was like having Keegan when he was at Newcastle, the you can score 3 if you want be we'll score 4 attitude.
It makes me wonder if the pressure is that much higher in the UK that he's frightened to play that cavalier way.

I'm a fan of the patient passing game and one up front. But I do think you need very good players to get the best out of that system. Otherwise you just become a one-dimensional team that doesn't concede many but often struggles to score them.
I'm no expert on the technicalities of the game, have never coached, or played to any kind of level, so my opinion is purely that of a fan. But it strikes me that maybe the Barcelona way is more suited for football at the highest level, where you can utilise the most skilful players. You're not likely to have many of these in the second tier of any league.
But even if you disregard all that, surely if you're 2-0 down at Watford and have attackers on the bench you forget about your credo for 20 minutes and just go for it. Don't you?

We played 2 up front at home to Millwall last year for the first half hour in a 3-5-2 that had us 0-2 very quickly and looking all at sea.
Poyet quickly reverted back to his usual formation and we managed a 2-2 draw in the end.

IMO we never commit enough men forward when we do attack, so many times when we've got the ball onto the wing it's only Ulloa in the box and if you're lucky maybe one of the midfielders has joined him.
When Forrest played us at the Amex they were committing at least 5 players in and around the box when they attacked.
Unless we can ping in some of the most accurate balls the world has ever seen or Ulloa can take on 3 guys at a time we're not going to score much unless we commit some men into the danger area.

And the man protecting the defence was sorted. Liam Bridcutts do not grow on trees. A vital position if you are going to play with three attacking players. We need to find another and I am not sure we have one at the moment.
We don't play like that anymore, hence Liam's lowered importance to the side this year.
Under Gus Greer or El Abd would pretty much ALWAYS pass it on to Liam. This season it usually sails over the DM's head.

I meant more for the defensive aspect rather than the build up. Surely Oscar would like a Busquets type?

Tony Bloom needs to have words. At the end of the day our football club is an entertainments business. To fully maximise match day revenue supporters need to be entertained. Watching Brighton at the minute couldn't be any further away from that. We have got to be one of the dullest teams in the UK right now. Went yesterday, won't be going to Millwall now and if I hadn't already purchased my ticket I'd probably give Hull a miss as well.
