This is just an observation as I have only this game (Luton) to go one but...what did he do?

I will be the first to admit that that I am not analytical whilst watching any given game but I can usually recall what a player contributed during the match. With Martot I am scratching my head. Maybe its one of those situations where he went about his business quietly and efficiently in accordance with DW's game plan.

I know it is negative of me to make this observation bearing in mind we won but I would be grateful if those who have seen him regularly can enligten me as to what he brings to the table.

Furthermore, Kuipers kicking was absolutely woeful.

Lastly Elphick sems every bit as good as indicated on this board. Elphick and Lynch at the centre of the defence bodes very well for the club.

I thought Martot did a decent job, but did not excel. He went about his work quietly, but did nothing spectacular. I like his attitude and he puts himself about and challenges well for everything in the air despite being vertically challenged.

EDIT: He probably should have scored, but seemed to get tangled up and got the ball caught between his feet. That was the four on two that I was certain we would score.

I agree with you on the final two counts. Kuipers was unusually woeful with his kicking and Elphick and Lynch could possibly be the best central pairing in this division, with Butters and El-Abd as useful backups.

I actually rate Martot. I thought he went about his business quietly and efficiently, he is not a crash bang wallopo type of player but gives us a certain je ne sais quoi!

Does a job. Unspectacular, but efficient. I would prefer to see Cox and Robinson wide, for home games at least.

The Frenchman's footballing contribution was NIL but he's great for wordplay.

Every time he receives a pass from the captain I mentally say to myself "Ham and Tomato!" (Hammond to Martot). I even DREAM about the crowd rising as one and shouting "Ham and tomato! and fantasise about Hawesy's commentary including the observation "Butters, Mayo, Hammond to Martot..."

I think Newcastle are watching all those players.

We do need to attack at home..not sure Cox is the answer at the moment.....he seems so out of form..his passing was woeful on saturday..hardly ever found one of our players

That's what I thought, very poor game and looked well out of form to me. There were a couple of occasions when Martot was in acres of space but the ball was given back to Luton. I haven't seen many games but I've yet to see one where Cox plays well :(

Martot is unspectacular and workmanlike and on Saturday's showing was of more value to the team than Cox on the day.

Can't comment about Saturday but I've had an inkling from day one he's going to be one of those players that divides fans opinions and gets a fair share of criticism. Personally in the games I've seen him in (most recently Leeds & Hartlepool) I thought he looked useful and well worth his place in the side, but no nothing revolutionary.

I thought Martot was ok. Nothing great but did nothing to deserve being dropped. I couldn't help but think that had we got Currie instead of Luton, and played him instead of Martot, we would have dominated the game start to finish. In that sense I think we should be aiming higher than Martot as a permanent for that position.

He was better against Leeds, played on the left instead of Cox, linked up well with Richards.

My choice would be Reid if fit !

P.S. Get to more games !!

I thought he was very good when I've seen him play. IMO he deserves a position in the side with Jakey to come off the bench.

Martot - O'Call - Hammo - Cox

hes useful - isnt one of those wingers who will beat men for fun, but tucks in, does a job defensively and can offer something in attack

he is fantastic in the air as well for someone so small, only person i can think of better at that height is DEON BURTON
