I've come back home.
@noeliadeniz knows Oscar well and is pretty darn connected in Spanish football as a commentator. I believe what she says as she'll just ask her mates / Oscar.

Spanish Dave didn't sign until 31st August last season, so as long as negotiations are still ongoing, & he hasn't signed for anyone else, then there's a chance.

David has issued a come and get me plea to Albion.

But he has warned he cannot wait much longer to find out if he is wanted back at The Amex.

David was offered a new one-year deal by the Seagulls in May following a successful debut season in English football.

The 30-year-old Spanish midfielder scored nine goals in 31 Championship outings to help Albion reach the play-offs after former boss Gus Poyet signed him on a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao.

Poyet has since been sacked pending an appeal and Oscar Garcia appointed as head coach, leaving set- piece specialist David in limbo.

He told The Argus: “I am still waiting to hear from Brighton. My first choice is Brighton. I have other clubs interested in me in the Championship in England and the First Division in Spain but I want to play for them. I enjoyed my first season at the club. The other players, management and supporters were very good to me and my family were made to feel very welcome.

“The length of contract is not a problem. I would happily sign for another year. I know about the success Oscar Garcia had in Israel last season and playing under a Spanish manager would be good. He knows our characteristics as players.”

Crowd favourite David, dubbed ‘Spanish Dave’ by fans, is currently at home in Logrono in Northern Spain, training alone or with friends.

Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Reading are all believed to be monitoring his situation, together with Espanyol.

David said: “I need to know what is happening by the end of this week so that I can make a decision and start training properly with a team.”

David has also hit back at fellow Spaniard Vicente’s end-of-season outburst about Poyet’s methods.

The former Valencia playmaker branded Poyet “selfish” and “egocentric”.

David said: “I read what Vicente said in The Argus and I disagree. Gus Poyet was fantastic for me.”

If he's still waiting for Brighton to make an offer, then have the club actually offered him a one year contract? Or has he turned that down and wants to renegotiate?
It's all very confusing.

This is odd. He was offered a contract, didn't sign it, then we changed manager and now he's a free agent. Now he seems to be lost in no man's land trying to convince a new manager to offer him a job? I can see it from both perspectives, why he would be hesitant to sign with no certainty about the future, and why a new manager would not necessarily rush in to resign a player who's he hasn't seen in training.

I assume this must mean that the old contract offer has expired, rather than him simply wanting more money?

He says in the Argus he wouldn't mind a one year contract from us- what is going on!? David Burke needs to sort it out.

I understood when we couldn't resign our joint best player Bridge due to wages, Upson would be nice but sure there are similar medium-long term prospects out there if not QUITE as good today. But please Oscar, sign my favourite player :p He does SO much and can excell virtually anywhere on the pitch xx

He'd be a massive signing if we could get him back. He adapted brilliantly to Championship football in his first season, and would have no trouble adjusting his game to the new manager. Especially since even in a game he can switch from being the best midfield player on the park to the best right back as if nothing had happened.

Big loss if we miss out, a unique talent at this level, would be very sad not to see him again.

Tricky one. Oscar might not see him fitting his plans, which is obviously something none of us know about or can influence. BUT, it would kill me to see him excelling in another team in the Championship. If he went to Espanyol and did well, then it wouldn't bother me so much, but would be seriously annoyed if we let him go to a rival for promotion when he is so keen to sign for us.

For some reason I'm still confident he will sign for us and this is all part of the negotiation 'stand off'.

Oh bloody hell, Albion. We've got a QUALITY player issuing a come-and-get-me plea. Sort it out!

Maybe Oscar has something better lined up? Just a thought.

Have to assume it's money .. the one year deal is fine but not enough £'s? If correct then you'd think the club could say "OK no more money but we'll make it 2 years" as I imagine happened with El Abd
