If its the game I'm thinking of, he was distinctly unimpressive that day. Came with a big reputation as a great young keeper, didn't live up to it.

he was known as "flapper". Would come for a cross, flap at it, and themn make a brilliant save to redeem himself. Nearest keeper to that today would be Reina at Liverpool.

didnt he save a pen in that game?

No. He conceded one that was retaken I think and we won 1 nil, the game before we had Liverpool away in the cup.

Thay day was during the outbreak of the first Iraq war and there was alot of chanting at James calling him Saddam. Wonder how that would go down in todays racism sensitive times?

You are indeed. Graham Moseley's testimonial, he came on at half time when it was 0-0. Final score was 3-0.

My first ever evening game.

Really?? God I'm old. My photos just show David Coles in goal for the BHA Cup Final XI from that night. Did James play in the Tottenham team? ( I remember Lineker did)

Would that have been the last time Mark Lawrenson played at the Goldstone??

I saw him at the Goldstone when he played for Watford. He was quality then as well.

I most certainly was at that game too (there may have been more than 1). I'm SURE he had an affro?! But I was prob only 5 or 6 yrs old. Remember finding the programme a few yrs later when DJ was playing for Liverpool and realising it was him who was in goal for Watford.

I remember that, ridiculous as well as unsavoury as James is clearly not of Asian origin.

I remember Operation Desert Storm kicked off on the night Bryan Wade twatted 4 past Newcastle (16th Jan 1991). I remember because I went home that night all EXCITED to watch the highlights, and all I got all night was a fat bloke in a khaki uniform pointing at a map.

If he plays on Saturday looks like he will be the only player to have played at the Goldstone and the Amex.

Should be a little presentation to mark the occasion, just hope he doesn't drop it :D

Darren Baker has played at the Goldstone and the Amex

According to Wikipedia, James didn't make any appearances for Watford in 1989, he made his debut and played every game in the 1990-91 season.

I definitely remember him playing at the Goldstone, but it must have been 1990ish.
