Made his utd debut at a certain ground in hove, 11 beckham's in a team and you won't go wrong ( apart from maybe goalie beckham)
I think you'll find that was actually David Blackham who came on for his debut at the Goldstone Ground. listen to the announcer reading his name out when he comes on as substitute. There is a video on YT somewhere.

Has to be a candidate for most overrated England player of all time. The 2002 WC campaign was the only time he looked good playing for England. Then he cocked up in the finals.

I don't get him either, apparently a nice bloke who turns up at lots of events and smiles. Would probably turn up at the opening of an envelope if there was a camera waiting. Good footballer but not world class, Michel Platini was far better at free kicks.
Beckham took every England free kick and corner for 10 years it seemed and did not really score an awful lot. Yes, passionate about playing for his country but very aware of the exposure that gives for his sponsors.

As long as Beckham can still kick a ball, he'd still be in the England team if I had my way, or on the bench at the very least. I don't care what anyone says, his passion for his country alone was an inspiration to the rest of the team, and ok, they may not have had the skill to win trophies, but just his presence on the pitch would often inspire his team mates to run the extra mile, how can that be a bad thing? On top of that, he was, and still is the best crosser of the ball in the world, and he can still bang the free kicks in. On just those two qualities alone I would put him in the England squad. He can stand there and do f*** all for 89 minutes, but when THAT chance comes from the edge of the box, I wouldn't want any other player around, and those chances DO come, often! How many times has Beckham been a hero for England? (Greece and Argentina spring to mind straight away) and how many times has Rooney, or any other current England player been a hero? - I know who I would rather have in my team!

He's class.
As a young Man U player who dated a spice girl and got sent of in the WC I hated him. But I had to grudgingly admit that the way he just played his game and got on with the abuse was quality.
Then there was that game against Greece. don't just put it down to the free kick. England were a one man team that day, it was boys own stuff. Amazing.
And then he went to Madrid. I was living in the city in the time. All the Madrid fans thought he had just been bought for his marketing value and didn't rate him. His performances changed that. They loved him.
Even that short stint in Milan he went down well didn't he?
The 'he loves playing for his country' argument doesn't sway me as much as the fact that he just seems to LOVE playing football. And for that I'll always respect him.
Think he's in danger (through no fault of his own) of becoming a bit of a parody of himself.
I think he is great though.

Ruined Englands World Cup chances in Japan by playing when not fit thus jumping out of the way of a tackle allowing Brazil to go on to score. Ruined Englands chances in 1998 by getting stupidly sent off for a petulant kick out at an opposing player, both tournaments we could have gone and on and done a lot better if it wasn't for him. Allowed his f*** ugly wife to ruin the World Cup in Germany by letting the WAG circus run out of control and thought he was the be all and end all of English football.
Fergie had the right idea by booting him literally out of Man U and he has been proved right by Beckham doing f*** all ever since.

Beckhams career for England wasn't all that as Ernest pointed out above. My memory of that Greece game was he did very little until the goal (I do concede my dislike of the bloke may cloud my judgement) and why the hell were we in that position in the first place? Ahh because we play with passion rather than with skill, strategy and technique. Can we please put this playing with passion for the three lions bullshit to bed and start respecting players who can play the game properly? Maybe we should play these players in the best position and move foward instead of backwards in world football.
