If only he had the brains to adapt he could be an awesome holding midfielder.

Didn't he play in that role quite a lot for Real Madrid?

I've always thought he would be fantastic there, although maybe now a little slow to be preferable to someone like Hargreaves or Barry.

He played as a central midfielder I believe for large parts of his Milan career but not a holding role. I don't think pace would be a problem as he would ideally just hold his position, tackle and spray the ball about. The trouble is can't stick to his position, he makes rash tackles and tries to hard to play 'hollywood' passes when a simple pass would do.

To be fair though if he played good simple passes many people on here would whinge about it a la Savage

But, despite a negative image earlier in his career about his intelligence, he does have a good footballing brain, and combined with his experience and natural skill I can't see him being a liability in that position, or being unable to play simple balls. You're right about the pace as well.

See I don't think his footballing brain is that great.

Worthing
If Beckham is 33 now, then by the time of the World cup he will be 35 or almost 36.

Is there any point him still being in the squad when there probably won't be a place for him then?

Lets get there first.
