He got sacked by Manchester United after winning the last seven games of the 1980-81 season, including a victory at Anfield. Crazy.

Why not at The Amex on Tuesday to show OUR respects f..k Palace.

I think there will be a 1 minute silence on Tuesday but unsure if they'll do the same on Saturday even though he did play for both clubs.

I played in same junior team as his son so he used to sometimes watch our matches on a sunday in the mid-seventies. Despite never recognising my football skills (admittedly well-hidden) he came across as a modest and thoughtful footballing man. RIP

Great coach and Manager . I just missed him as a player as my Albion watching started the season after he left - Maximum Respect to him though! -mand part of the team that still boasts the Div 3 (S) Championship!

Well before my time as a fan to see him play but one of my earliest BHA memories is that about '68 we had a testamonial game for a player called Jack Bertolini(spelling?) against the '66 world cup winning squad. Then Chelsea Manager Dave Sexton was standing next to us under the North East floodlight pylon.A spot he often took up to watch the Albion.
As an Ex player and a serving League club manager he could have blagged a complimentary ticket for these games but he paid his way like the rest of us.

A true Gent.

Under Dave Sexton, we were a really good team. Champions elect for about 10 days in 1976 before Liverpool played their last League game against Wolves. We were 15 minutes away from being champions ... 15 minutes.

RIP Dave Sexton.

He was very kind to me as a kid offering me a trial with Chelsea and taking the time and trouble to let me down gently when I patently wasnt good enough - something that others were less concerned to do.

A good man. RIP.

According to wikipedia he finished his playing career with them, after leaving us, scoring 11 in 27 for palace.

Indeed. It would be nice if Dave Sexton's death could act as a reminder to both sets of fans on Saturday that there are more important things than the frankly petty f***ing rivalry that both clubs have maintained for so long.

Football supporting is ALL about "petty f***ing rivalry" and has EVERYTHING to do with the anticipation of being able to rub some other teams fans noses into the dog shit of defeat.

If you don't understand that basic fact. Try "supporting" your local syncronised swimming team.

Really? Football supporting is ALL about "petty f***ing rivalry"? And that is a "basic fact"? You child. It's "synchronised" as well by the way.
