Which is why we don't win anything. Change the set up to change the outcome. If the FA really wanted to invest in winning the world cup and euros then they could, but won't as the clubs are too powerful.

Are you suggesting the players should belong to the FA under contracts. Market forces would make that an impossibility. Also, how many other national squads operate on a different system to ours, ie players with clubs meet up for internationals?

I think from Brailsford's interview with Lineker tonight, he fancies making a bit of wedge as a hire-in consultant to any sports clubs or organisations who are interested in his spare time, whilst continuing with British Cycling and Team Sky as the day job, although this would likely restrict him to short courses etc with UK organisations to avoid working for the benefit of the opposition.

I heard him say, he knew cycling so he was going to stick to that. As a side note John Brailsford, his dad, was an early contributor the the invention of the nut. Known nowadays by various names such as the Cloggy! He was a climber and guide, a contemporary of Joe Brown and Don Willans.
Irrelevant to most I suppose really, but a bit of interesting background to me.

DB although talking of his loyalty to cycling, just didn't dismiss football, on BBC1.

Go Dave

:fishing:
He also made the point that the secret of his success in cycling has been to get the basic stuff - like motivation, commitment and a winning mentality - right first, and only when that is done do you start working on the cycling stuff.

Somewhat less tongue in cheek.

My take is he's certainly had some interest/offers in Team Brailsford.

I'd love to know where they have come from.

As said earlier but it's worth repeating.

When the Woodward/Southampton experiment gets brought up.
It's been said that there wasn't the level of professionalism needed for Woodward to work with.

Yeah that's right, let a little thing like 'the truth' get in the way of a good story.

Woodward

Comments on this thread about Woodward are interesting, he has been pretty roundly derided since his team won the world cup. But, isn't he also the supremo behind the Olympics squad and havent they done pretty well?

Essentially, yes. I agree it won't happen, and probably can't happen from this point as that horse bolted so long ago it's now being flogged by the FA to try to get a trophy. Just because other national squads do things the same way as we do doesn't mean it's the right way to do things.

No, he'd make a shit manager. See Clive Woodward and Southampton FC for details. Alternatively we could always put Sir Alex Ferguson in charge of Team Sky .

To be fair, he is used to working for overseas owners who fleece their customers and have no ethics.
