The Mirror had a little more in their transfer blog - this afternoon

Never quite know how much this type e of story is just pure speculation so approach with caution...

They NEED to sell - apparantly. So if true, knock £10M off the price, and keep dropping it by £1M every time they quibble!

(That's if we actually do want him. He was only worth £20M a year ago apparantly - and chose not to come to us - and hasn't drastically improved since.)

They wouldn’t know that and what we’re considering imo. As usual, one paper writes something (poss complete bullshit) and the others copy but put their own little spin on it. That’s how I see it. But let’s hope it’s true that we’re in negotiations.

The Mail say that Almeria have a 20% sell-on fee so Benfica would get about the same amount they paid for him back if we pay the £25m quoted in that paper.

Are we SERIOUSLY in the market for laying down £25m+ for a bloke on crutches following knee surgery, who won't be ready till possibly next month at the earliest ?

Get real. We're not THAT desperate (or stupid).

We’re sorry to inform you that your application to join the club’s recruitment department has been rejected on the basis of a lack of ambition.

If we want a player, for only £25m, who can assist like Moder & Groß did at the weekend (with both feet), who can score headed goals like Ulloa and whose finishing is a level above everyone we’ve got except Welbeck, we’re going to have to take a gamble on things like minor knee operations. Tony is a gambler who normally wins. This is the sort of player who could keep us up (like Zaha does with Palace every year) if the rest of the team are playing shit all the time. His decision making is exceptional. But what he could do with the sort of amazing chances that were spurned last season is truly exciting to think about.

We don’t actually need him all the time Maupay is playing like he did at the weekend but we sure need someone to compete with Neal when he decides to pick up that banjo again and head to the barn door for target practice.

I've been blinded by many, many YouTube showreels so I'm not even going to bother pressing 'play' on that one.

Fact is, however flash he looks - he's f*cked his knee. He's crocked. We have no idea how well he may recover from that, but it sounds like being a potentially very complex medical. Yes we know Tony likes a gamble - but this is like calling a £25m pot with a pair of 8's on the river.

Would you, if it was your money ?

That's why they have medicals. To assess things like how his knee is doing.

Whilst only the lying Mirror and lying Mail are banging on about it, I have my doubts there’s any truth.

Plus I’m not so sure Bloom will commit to £25m plus a huge contract.

Whilst what you say about Mr Bloom committing to a big contract he has always maintained that his plan was a structured plan to succeed

First level was to get promoted

Second was to stay there, this involved breaking the transfer record and then the pay structure to get Lallana in

Maybe this is the start of the next level

Be fantastic if it is

Almost every goal in this clip is from a tap in from frankly ludicrous attempts at defending that we are unlikely to be seeing much of in the Premier League.

I’m still haunted by the showreel of Stephen Dobbie. He looked INCREDIBLE.

Sorry, a lot those goals look like the two we scored at the weekend.

And his assists seem to be mainly from the left side, an area that this graphic from albion analytics clearly demonstrates we are woefully weak in.

E662b0VWQAA9e72.jpeg

From Albion Analytics:

Brighton registered over four times the number of assists from the right flank (18) as they did from the left flank (4).

Interestingly, WHOScored
data has Brighton’s attack frequencies down the left and right as equal (37% of attacks coming down both).

I just think that Tony won’t want to go through what happened last season with our finishing issues. We probably dropped 20+ points by not finishing chances almost every other EPL side would have. We could have gone down if we’d not beaten some good sides as we got almost nothing out of the bottom six.

I remember thinking after our away trip to Newcastle last year that our finishing issues might be over but it quickly became apparent that we’d be rooted to a relegation fight with most of our players hit with this awful case of the heebie-jeebies in front of goal.

Maupay and Welbeck are good Premier League forwards but the later will only play about half our fixtures while the former is vulnerable to a profound loss of confidence in front of goal. However our other striking options are worse.
What we need to be able to do is drop Maupay when he, frankly, starts finishing like a Sunday league player again, we couldn’t do that last season because the likes of Connolly were actually worse than him.

So in answer to your question, yes, I would invest £25m for Nunez if it was my money (and I’d just got a £50m windfall from Arsenal).

From what I gather, he is recovering from a routine knee operation and is not behind schedule on his return. That’s what could have put the likes of Roma off, I think now is the time to gamble because of Maupay et al start missing everything as soon as the window closes, we’ll know we’ve got another good option coming soon. It could be the difference between survival and relegation.

This seems like the type of player who we will hold a long term interest in - obviously we like his statistics etc, however it seems that it's going to need to be the case of signing him whilst we can.

It's a gamble given his recent injury record however I'd wager if he stays with Benfica for another season and performs well he'd be out of our reach. I get the impression the club may realise this and are keen to secure a deal, but there seems to be a lot of barriers. His agent has apparently said he's staying & as mentioned previously a lot could depend on Benfica's Champions League qualification and the financial implications if they don't make it.

My feeling is he's our main target - despite it being a gamble he's a player who the club feel has a huge amount of potential, but given all the sticking points I just can't see it happening.

To the “if it was my money” question, if the amount was around 0.25% of my overall wealth, yes I’d certainly strongly consider it.

This. Of all the strikers we've been linked with, he's the one that looks the real deal. But the this ...

That's why they have medicals. To assess things like how his knee is doing.

... needs to be tempered with this.
