Indeed. If it was ever about money, it isnt anymore. The ship sailed, the train left the station, the eagle did not land.

I don't doubt there was a time a year or two, where if we had pushed the boat out (to keep with the analogy) we'd have had a decent chance.

But then, it's also pretty easy to say Brighton should have signed Messi as a 9 y/o or whatever. Getting it right without the benefit of hindsight isn't easy

True but in Nunez and Youssef En-Nesyri hindsight would suggest the recruitment team are on the right track.

Incidentally Youssef is currently injured...

...so there's still a chance.

Gus has spoken :rotlf:

It’s not ‘break the bank’ it’s annihilate the bank permanently!

But how I’d love the club to have pre-arranged a £30m transfer with Benfica in the January window based on them being knocked out of the Champions League. More chance of the real Santa coming up my chimney this Christmas unfortunately.

And the player presumably would have to have some say in the matter!!

I do wonder if that would be anything to do with ashworth going there? maybe getting one of his prime targets in would sweeten the deal somewhat

A striker who has scored against Barcelona (twice) and Bayern Munich in the Champions League this season does not need Ashworth to signpost him. The secret was out months ago. He is top level. He’ll never play for Brighton now.

If I had to guess, Ashworth will stay despite the money. You’d have to be comfortable taking money from the Prince of Death. If he does go, he’d be savaged, reputationally.
