It’s what benfica do, buy players then sell for a big profit.considering the noises they were making after a couple of months of buying him they seem to be letting him go cheap.

That’s fair enough if said player has just scored hat loads and ripped up the champions league, but on this occasion he certainly hasn’t. Doesn’t make him a bad player but shouldn’t double his value.

What was the point in Nunez going to Benfica? How has it helped the player?
How the feck do Benfica justify doubling the price they paid for a player after only one (quite poor) season? We should offer them what they paid or walk away.

I’m guessing he hoped to go there, bang in 20+ goals and get snapped up by a super elite team.

Hasn’t worked out that way, and maybe he’d now rather showcase his abilities in a bigger league. Can’t blame Benfica for wanting a good pay off if they believe he’s destined for bigger things.

Sounds about right, and it appears that we may think it was a bargain (hence our interest at the time and, if true, now), but not as much of a bargain as Benfica initially thought they had got. Didn't they say 100M just after they signed him ?

*edit* North of 126M

Ben white isn’t worth £50m, but paying for potential.
Benfica want a price where they feel he is worth that in the future. Not to mention they sell a lot of players and the money disappears. Sure I read benfica have made more profit than any other club in Europe from player sales.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be pleased to see him signed this window, but he's not done anything over the last 12 months that justifies a 50% increase on his transfer fee. There are plenty of other players out there that we could spend 20-30m on.

He should practice scoring in the tinpot league he currently plays in before playing with the big boys in England

If he had smashed in 20/30 goals last season then he would be completely out of our price range. We are looking for players with potential because we can't afford the finished article.

From Record:

Brighton improved the proposal by Darwin Núñez. According to what our newspaper found out, after placing 30 million euros on the table, the English have now reached 32 M€, plus an amount for objectives and also reserving a percentage in a future sale to Benfica. Record knows, however, that SAD incarnate is not willing to negotiate on these terms, considering that the Uruguayan international may be worth much more if it manages – as the Benfica officials believe – to show its full potential as an eagle on its chest and the markets return to practice higher values, as seen before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Premier League club wants to bet heavily on strengthening the attack and has been trying Darwin for a year. By the way, when the striker arrived at Luz, Brighton was precisely one of the emblems beaten in the race. Now, even knowing that the shirt 9 is recovering from surgery on the right knee that he underwent last May, the English are determined to incorporate the scorer, trusting not only in sporting return, but also in financial terms, as the player has just 22 years old and Brighton officials are convinced that in the Premier League it will be almost a matter of time before the investment pays off... with a profit.

In Luz, however, the doors are still closed to negotiation. With the arrival of Yaremchuk, Jorge Jesus has an excess of options for the attack, but this one will be worked with other names, in order not only to relieve the squad, but also the salary mass. This, of course, always filling the coffers.

Vinícius at the head of the trio to go out

SAD resists Darwin's departure but, with seven forwards for two positions (thinking of the 4x4x2), JJ has too many options up front and two or three forwards are still expected to leave. At the head is Vinícius, who has the Eintracht Frankfürt on his leg for a loan with an option to buy €25m. Benfica, however, wants the purchase to be mandatory at the end of the season. Waldschmidt has long been on the market and, valued at Euro’2020, Seferovic is also in the window.

Only about 5 or 6 days after the event from the Brighton independent, that was the second bid of 32m euro that has already been rejected.

No reports yet of a third bid. Right now there is no, non rejected bid, on the table thats public
