Allegedly available for £50-£60m. Would a loan with a permanent deal in the summer be a good move for us?

£50-60m obviously a tonne of cash and assume he'll be on hefty wages too.
Yes it would be a good move for us.

For him it'd be a pretty shite one though which is why it won't happen. He'll move to another big club if he goes.

Do you think Rutter has a potential huge resale value? I don’t think anyone’s paying £40m at the moment.

Possibly not.

Nunez will be 26 in June and will be looking for a sizeable contract.
He is unlikely to be worth anything close to his current value towards the end of that contract.
Giorginio will be 26 at the end of his current contract and stands a reasonable chance of still being worth, a decent fee.

The overall cost ( Fee and wage s - resale value)for Rutter ,is likely to be significantly smaller than the same numbers for Nunez's next contract.

100%

It won't be top four English club, but it will be a Champions league team.

Italy or Germany maybe? But not Brighton.

I don’t think anyone is taking this seriously - at least I hope not. He’s reported to be on £140,000 per week basic, plus hefty goal, assist and appearance bonuses. Until June 2028.

When he goes it’ll be to one of a handful of clubs in the world who can afford him.

The ‘only sign players with high resale potential’ is as outdated a myth as the whole ‘no dickhead’ thing. We will sign a player if the price is right and the need is there.
In this case the combination of high wages, high fee, low resale value is the issue.
Not just that there is no high resale value.

The analysis on any deal will be based around the total cost to the club.
I'm pretty sure we bust our wages limit a couple of times when signing players on a free transfer with no resale value, for example.

The other thing is that far more clubs have switched onto the strategy of buying young talent scouted from far afield, to develop and sell on.

Everyone is chasing the same small pool of players. Clubs selling these players can demand higher prices, and there is less profit to be made.

Other profiles of players may present better value now. Though Núñez, I wouldn't have thought, would present particularly good value to us in any case.

He is on a huge contract, but he's also consistently not justifying it.

His next contract will likely be a fair bit lower, don't you think?

(I do however agree that I don't see him as a potential target for us anytime soon...)

The issue is that he has three and a half years remaining on that guaranteed deal. He is unlikely wanting to accept a pay cut, the most likely outcome would be a loan or series of loans where the wage cost is shared between both clubs. Lukaku for example is/was on a reported £300k a week and Chelsea were thrilled to get a third of that as a wage contribution for his loans.

So you’re right, in June 2028 if he hasn’t found form he will likely earn less, but from his perspective there’s literally zero incentive for him to leave a top club and take a pay cut.
