Brighton factually.....
The Sun are claiming he turned down £140k p/w from Fenerbahce to sign for us, and also that he's on 'nearly three times less' here - struggling to believe he'd accept £50k ish p/w with that offer on the table...

Maybe, just maybe he feels he has something to prove and he felt with Lallana here and our set up, this was the place he felt he could do that.

That is a nice thought isn't it, I am sticking with that thought in a time when good and positive news is hard to come by.

It’s in the Sun so probably B/S. Don’t forget he is already a millionaire so could probably struggle by on 50k a week.
He wants to be in the Premier league and prove his fitness. If he does he will get plenty of offers next year including us, I imagine. Win/win really.

Considering the huge amount that he has been paid over the last few years, perhaps money isn't as important as staying in England.
Does he have children?
That would be a reason to stay here.

Let's just say for arguments sake it's an 8 month contract till the end of June 2021.
£140k pw = £4.48m
£50k pw = £1.6m

Now conceivably in order to maintain our wage structure, we could have come up with signing on fee, and appearance / goal bonuses and other performance related fees. For someone who has suffered so many injuries that would be a good deal to only need to pay him larger sums if he stays fit and makes regular appearances. So it might be that our offer isn't too far behind if he stays fit and contributes.

The other matter is whether you want to move to Turkey for that period in the middle of a pandemic, would be a big decision to take, then having to isolate each time you returned.

And moving to Turkey has hardly revitalised anyones career - see Sturridge etc. It does show that Welbeck at least has belief that he can get back to a higher level in the EPL if he has a good spell with us

It did wonders for Sørloth, albeit he's not yet scored since moving to RB Leipzig...

I think the signing and establishment of Lamptey, the return and publicity of White, and the signing of Lallana are a very clever plan to make us a different prospect than previous seasons to British players. It's one thing to tell players and agents we've stayed up 3 years in a row and that that is the 'magic number' for establishing ourselves, but neutrals just don't watch our games or see the performances often enough. Only the results. They don't get the culture and squad/club atmosphere like we see glimpses of.

I think these 3 signings will have us viewed differently by the wider footballing world and if D.W. can be an additional success story then all the better.

My views of him on this thread from a year ago was highly jaundiced, based on injuries and cost. But now he's here, I'm actually excited to see the fella. It could be a disaster, it could be the signing of the season. If he comes off the bench and scuffs the winner in off his arse tomorrow night, then I'll be singing his name loud n proud all the way back from the pub.

I've always been happy to give him a pop he's still young and despite always being a bit of a joke player everywhere he went to, managers like ferguson and Wenger played him and he scored lots for England. Massively good pedigree.

If he's injured most of the season them so be it. But this still has to be better than nothing !!

Anyone think he’s going to start ?

I predict bench, but... this is Potter choosing, so who knows?
