If Sunderland are sniffing I doubt we will get close.
I'm not so sure about that. We would surely offer a better chance of first team football than Sunderland.

Also, Sunderland might be interested, they might have scouted him, but he is 22, and playing in Ireland and Scotland before that, so won't be able to play...(unless they have spare spaces in their 25)
Derry? f*** sake. Why don't we try looking for players at proper football clubs?

Also, if this guy was any good there is no way we'd be looking at him as "left-back cover", as any half-decent left-back would dispose the current holder of that position with ease.

Some joker called Steve Penney from Ballymena never did anything so I heard. Nice to see the voice of reason back. No, you're right.
I remember Reading buying some irish blokes called Kevin Doyle and Shane Long from Cork for about 300k in total.
Wonder what happened to them.

One of three we are interested in according to the Irish Times
"Brighton chase Derry City trio
SOCCER : English Championship promotion-chasers Brighton and Hove Albion are set to table a bid for Derry City defender Daniel Lafferty.
Gus Poyet’s ambitious Seagulls are also believed to be interested in Derry’s winger Stephen McLaughlin and striker Paddy McEleney.
Brighton’s scouting team of Adie Cooper and first team coach Charlie Oatway watched former Northern Ireland under-21 international left back Lafferty in Derry’s 1-0 defeat to Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium on Thursday night.
It’s believed Brighton are prepared to offer an initial fee close to €150,000 for 22-year-old Lafferty, a former Celtic trainee.
They are also keen to take both McLaughlin and McEleney on trial at the end of the Airtricity League season."
