Why the hell do people think he's a defensive midfielder? A 'deep lying' midfielder does not mean this.

I think this signing says more about Dale Stephens than anything else, could be an even more serious injury than was thought.

Am I missing something? Looks to me like Den Haag came 9th in the top Dutch league last year. Or are you just moaning as usual?

He doesn't know how to have a positive thought.

THIS

Been on loan to loads of clubs and has had no pre season so won't be match fit for a few weeks!

Twice isn't loads, one spell was for half a season when he was 20 and was recalled to his parent club to replace a player they'd sold. He then went out on loan again towards the end of his time with his first club, he was released after that loan spell and then spent two season with ADO Den Haag before being released and signing for us. I know he isn't a £2 million player which everyone wants to see but he looks like a decent addition to the squad with plenty of experience who can score a goal and takes a decent free kick and penalty. Let's give him a chance before sticking him in the same group of players as Ryan Harley and Barn Door Billy.

So much negativity, I bet most of here had never even heard of him one hour ago (I hadn't). He could be a great signing and still leaves us lots of funds to sign a top striker, something everyone agrees we need. Just because he was on a free transfer, it doesn't make him bad. Remember Kuszczak is currently a free agent and he'd do a great job for a championship team.

Yeah they did, my mistake I just wrongly assumed that Den Haag, were just some tin pot, make up the numbers side, in a league that has probably had 3/4 different winners in the last 40 years....I've never even heard of them and if people are honest, I bet 90% of people on here haven't heard of them either.

You aren't, they did and he is.

Thanks. I did wonder if I was missing something really obvious.

Lots of moans on here about midfielders and us having lots of them already but we were poor there yesterday and didn't have any creativity. If Holla and/or Texeira can provide some quality on the ball with Ince/Crofts/Toko getting stuck in, I think that could work. Just because we need a left back/winger/striker doesn't mean we shouldn't do other deals when they come along.

Let's be honest, if he's instead of Clayton, on the face of it Holla has had a much better career and no transfer fee involved. Only issue is he is unproven in English football.

So how do you know their quality if you've never heard of them?

I presume he was on the same list of players we wanted below Adam Clayton.

I think the biggest surprise is he sat through the Birmingham game yet he still wanted to sign for us!

You feel that the defensive midfield role is a key area for us in terms of recruitment ? Get real.

Width, left back and at least 2 strikers is where we need strengthening and quickly.

This signing suggests to me either Toko or Ince arnt up to the task in Hyypias opinion.

Ince was never up to the job, Toko we don't yet know enough about him as not yet fit.
So on the face of it this looks like a good signing.

So from this we've learnt to basically dismiss your usual over-reactionary responses to new players/rumours as you admit yourself that your knowledge is very limited.

Good to know.

So, you admit you're wrong but are still moaning. Great! You do know that Virgil Van Dijk came from a "tinpot" team in that division, as did the winger Kostic that we were supposedly in for a few weeks ago.

I really don't understand the mentality on here. Moan about no signings and then we sign someone and people moan about that too. At least watch him before writing him off.

This place is unbelievable.

Whinge about lack of signings. Whinge about the performance from midfield yesterday.

So we announce a signing today. Whinge that he's apparently crap. Whinge he's unproven. Whinge he's on a free.

We've sold or released 10 players since January, and a player like this comes in to give us more options for a depleted midfield and still they whinge.
