Good insider knowledge there. Exactly how long have Leeds been talking to Man U about the transfer and what were the steps they went through to get him. Would be interesting to know how it works from someone who clearly knows exactly the time line.

My United mate seems to have a good ITK knowledge and has alerted me to quite a few dealings before they hit twitter or the papers. He told me on Friday that this was going to happen and seeing as there had been absolutely no speculation that I can see, I am assuming it was done quickly

Perhaps the fact they already had a long set of complicated transfer negotiations in 19/20 that didn’t in the end happen (right up to deadline day ) is related.

Hardly rounded on you Icy, and I'm a fan of your posts. But in this case, we just don't know it was done quickly (it may have been), but we do know nothing came out before the last few days. Not the same thing. We do know that the deal was all but done last season and then fell through on the finer details. Pretty easy for those details to have been quietly ironed out, and for the deal to go through very simply. Esp with a lad from Yorkshite going back to God's Own County.

Also, this could be a case of willing seller and willing buyer. Then deals can get done quickly. But if you have a club who aren't in a hurry to sell or are happy to play hardball (eg Benfica) AND you get the deal leaked because they want to get other bidders interested, it would be easy to conclude that we are crap at negotiating. That's just not the case.

And we do do quick deals sometimes (or ones where stuff didn't leak out earlier). Even this Summer, we did Mwepu apparently out of the blue. We did Veltman for pennies in no time (apparently). Willing seller, willing buyer.

So I don't think we can use the Dan James stick to beat the club because (a) it's not the same as Nunez and (b) Leeds have been talking to them for over a year.

It could also be a case of selling club wanting a price and buying club who wanted that exact player over a few windows being willing to pay it, to secure their long time target....... It's easy to assume Benfica are playing hardball, but we are known to have wanted Nunez for over a year, Benfica may be more than willing to sell if we offered the 40 million euros (£35m) they ask, but we won't...... That would then be us playing hardball.....


All speculation of course, who knows that's actually happening, what we do know is as of this minute, this area still isn't addressed.

To be fair, after we have lost it seems people are happy to pick up and beat away at the club with the first stick they see lying around.

There was a post yesterday blaming the club for not ordering enough pies and / or not distributing them around the various outlets adequately. Somehow, ordering pies is suddenly the club's responsibility, rather than the multi-national contract-catering specialist this has been out-sourced to. So it's no surprise that how Manchester United and Leeds Utd conduct their private transfer business is somehow used to cast BHAFC in a poor light too, if that is what is required to make us all feel better in light of 0-2 defeat.

Good move for him. Bit expensive for us to be used as mainly a wing back and have to compete with a potentially someday fit Lamptey. We might take a chance on higher wages with the likes of Lallana and Welbeck since we have such a young squad and they appear to have met us in the middle partially dropping down wages, but can't see that happening with a young player from a big 6 club unless it's someone yet to break through at all consistantly like Lamptey. DJ seems a bit too established for that and think Leeds is an ideal fit.

This, I feel, is the pivitol reason why we didn't go after James.

The club would get all his training gear printed up with "DJ" on it only for Locadia to stroll in and assume it's all his. Chaos.

Fair enough, I live in hope that we can quickly sort out Nunez next summer after two years of complicated transfer negotiations in the previous summer windows. Fact is Leeds did get their man and tied it up very quickly this window……it seems

and Man Utd were prepared to both sell and accept it given the complex ins/outs in their squad in last few days freed him up, and the player/agent were happy with the contract and the club, and Bielsa wanted the player in his squad because it offered something different to what he already had, and because the window shuts today.

Yes, They had to pay a fee that Man Utd would accept. But all the stars had to align. It wasn't just Leeds desire to cough up £25m that swung the deal otherwise Ben White would be a Leeds player.

Man U have apparently paid a fee of €15M + potential €8M in add-ons. Man C were apparently not willing to pay a fee.
