Last time in Div 1 Myo was part of a 5 man defense including Cullip, Blackwell and Ingimarsson - plenty of quality there to cover up those litke "Kerryisms" that he is prone to.

This time round he will be part of a 4 man defense (unless we change formation) and seeing that kerry could hardly hack Div 2 or 3 football as part of a 4 man defense I don't see how anyone can say he would be the answer to our problems.

Harding is making mistakes and is not ideal but he is probably the best option we have and we have to hope he stops making schoolboy errors soon.

Actually it wasn't Mayo who was the weak link in that defence it was Paul Watson. Mayo played out of his skin that season - it was by far his best while at the club. Which made last season's loss of form all the more galling. I don't think it would do any harm bringing him back for a few games to shore up the defence. Harding has made a few howlers recently - it's time to give Mayo his chance

Mayo is a FAR BETTER left-back than Dan Harding. To say Harding is even remotely in the same class as Mayo is laughable. Harding is too much of a pretty boy. I was astonished he finished the game last night. Bring Mayo back immediately. But McGhee won't do that - he has his favourites, including Harding.

Last night a friend of mine sat next to a talent scout. He asked him who he was looking out for and he said Dan Harding. He had a check list of things like postional play, attitude, defensive capability, passing etc, and in every column he marked him 'poor', 'out of position', 'weak'. No positive comments.

He turned to my friend and asked him if he was this awful all the time. My friend, a Scot I might add, said "Let's put it this way, as a Scot, I am delighted that he is playing for England..."

No - that's Harding you're talking about. Mayo's distribution is high quality in comparison. Mayo generally knows when to step in and tackle, and when to 'just jockey', when to pass, and when to hoof it in to Row Z. Whether he does it too any good effect is another question - hence the 'Kerryisms'. His experience is now what's required.

Harding is far too hesitant, and is too often caught ball-watching, and his mistakes are costing us far too dear. I don't recall Kerry's performances ever 'costing' us a match.

The 'Kerryisms' talked about earlier were humorous asides to some of his ball passing slips. Unfortunately, these 'slips' are currently the cornerstones of Harding's game. His confidence is probably now shot to pieces, which means a spell in the stiffs is what's required.

If absoutely baffles me that people have such a downer on Kerry Mayo. He had a superb season in Div 1 a couple of seasons ago. We know what he is capable of. The comment made earlier about him being the weak link in a five-man defence doesn't hold water for me. If he was a liability, he would have been replaced.

Mayo must return. But as I said earlier, unfortunately, McGhee has his favourites...

i watched nearly every game in div 1 last time and never thought he was any better than average! harding's distribution is so much better than mayo's granted he's made a couple of mistakes last night but 1 bounced of his knee and for the other he slipped.i take it you never went on saturday when harding was absolutely superb by far our best player

I would play this:

Kuipers
Reid Virgo Cullip Harding
Currie Hammond (Carpenter) Nicolas Jones/Jarrett
Knight Molango

Lush

Mods' Pet
I think that Harding needs to get his confidence back in the reserves. Also, with Butters AND Cullip off form, we should be bringing on the next generation of central defenders.

We have a free weekend coming up. I'd like to see a friendly with a team like this...

Roberts
Hinsh Cullip El-Abd Virgo
Jones Chippy Nicolas Currie
Molango Knight

I don't always agree with your posts but I think you're spot on with that team.

Can't agree on several fronts there, Lush

1. Kuipers in goal
2. Hinsh in the stands - where he usually puts his clearances
3. Virgo at RB. Better still, Virgo alongside Cullip, and El-Abd at RB.
4. Mayo at LB
5. Hmm, Jones on the wing, I can stomach but for attacking flair, it's Jarret and Hart on the wings. For a defensive games, it's Jones and Hart.
6. Currie on the bench.
7. If Molagno is not a 'target' man, and we would therefore not lump it up to our forwards, I would have Robinson playing, who this season has been our most effective forward. Molango is a donkey.

Apart from that, totally agree...

i reckon harding should play in the reserves for a few games to increase his confidence and then bring him back and he'll do well

He could be the best in the World but he's too slow to get anywhere near Championship wingers which makes him totally useless against players with pace. Harding at least has the pace to get there and make a mistake ;)
