I think the problem Potter has is to accommodate 5 central defenders into 3 position. Because of this we are seeing 'distortions' like White in midfield (never worked at Leeds) and BDB at left full back. BDB works tirelessly and enthusiastically but not his best position.

In a way getting White back has disrupted the team a bit, but he is massively talented.

If 5 into 3 don't go, what's the best line up of 3 central defenders. I am not talking potential, but on current form.

I go for Dunk, White and Veltman.

The commentator last evening after BDB sliced that delightful reverse pass from Lallana:

"After the touch of a piano player we had the touch of a piano shifter".

Or something like that.

That was a good line. But for balance the commentary duo were very positive around Dan Burn and his performance last night.

He had an excellent effort on goal first half which just missed the target plus some decent crosses in dangerous areas which no one attacked due to lack of numbers in the box.

The wasteful cross at the end was poor but otherwise he was pretty reasonable.

I thought it was a cheap jibe and a bit c***ish tbf. He did repeatedly put in some good dipping crosses to the back post but rarely was anyone there. He also put in a few v poor ones which were probably more memorable. Bit like Solly eh?! He certainly worked hard. I was frustrated at the end he kept being given the ball by his teammates when at that point he seemed a bit devoid of ideas. The more creative players needed it.

I think its possible both technically and in reality. Bernardo out and Karbo in would definitely not surprise me.
Was a big fan of Bernardo but he's not up to the standard. Just have no trust in him when he's defending or on the ball sadly...

Indeed. Glimpses of skill, but very difficult to trust him when he is defending.. or attacking... or having the ball.. or not having the ball.

Burn at a push can play at LB

But not at LWB..... and I don’t blame him whatsoever.

Played his career at CB and then is pushed to LB and then asked to do a job at PL level as a LWB .... sorry not for me.

I thought Dan Burn has been great for us since GP tookover.

Has the occasional bad touch, but he’s taken his game to another level in this team.

I agree think there must have been something in White's contract about playing him every game , we have 3 very similar players with him Webster and Veltman playing and it does not give us enough variation.

I would go with your 3 and have Alzate in midfield to give some pace. I have no clue what he would look like as a LWB as some have suggested.

Burn should be commended for his efforts as he is not being asked to do the CB role and the LWB role is a much more specialised role. He has neither the real pace nor cross to do the job properly. He does give 100% though and I can see why the manager likes him,

Nope. Perhaps a promise that he would play a lot but there is no reasonable (or unreasonable, as far as I know) club that puts this into a contract.

I thought he was decent last night. Gave everything and caused problems. Could have scored one or two. The crosses at the end were wild, but otherwise he was decent.

The one thing Burn wasn’t tonight was great. Sliced clearances, sloppy passing, woeful offensively. Thank goodness Burnley were so terrible offensively.

At times his technique is actually really poor, but then does something routine well.

Despite his height he offers little on set pieces.

I’d be happier if we hadn’t loaned Cochrane out, only true competition to Solly given Bernardo seems to have forgotten how to play.

This.

Was discussing Burn with a fellow mod on our whatsapp group this morning. I doubled down on my opnion in my article today that he's not good enough at LB or LWB. The retort was that he's not good enough for the Premier League full stop.

Its an experiment that we all tolerated but clearly has had its time. Talking up BDB as if he is some talented wing back setting up chance after chance is ludicrous. The man is first and foremost a CB. Not really a LB, except in emergencies. Slow turning circle. Regularly exposed at LB.

Solid Championship CB.

well , at 6 ft 7 you'd think he'd have centre back written all over him , if you're going to play a 6 ft 7 player out of position then centre forward would be the spot ....no...?

No...he isn't very good in the air.

Webster lacks positional sense. Not great for a top division CB. He may look decent carrying the ball out of defence but his actual defending is woeful at times. The other three are better players.
