To begin to bridge the gap between the first team and the development squads?

Agree with Surf's Up - always worth remembering that CH was something of an emergency appointment that departed from TB's originally preferred plan for the club (young coaches, moulding a whole club concept etc). This looks a shrewd appointment - someone who can bridge the gap, and also make sure we have succession planning in place for when Chris moves on (he's 60 later this year).

Looking on Twitter the WBA fans thought very highly of him and will be gutted to see him come to us.

If Dan Ashworth is looking for a new job why are we not snapping him up. Money should be no option. Could be best signing of the season.

Dan Ashworth to Brighton Albion offer him whatever he wants haven’t been the same since he left

If Dan Ashworth is planning to leave the England setup, the Albion have to do what they can to bring him back. Just seeing him join Brighton and @WBA not approaching him would hurt big time.

We've been a shambles since Dan Ashworth left, Not one bloke above Moore with a football background either now...So yeah i'd be inclined to believe what the Peterborough chairman is saying sadly

if only we had dan ashworth still, the players he brought in and for the price as well.

His role at the FA is very different to anything Barber does - oversight of coaching rather than administration. He'd be responsible for making sure that all the club's teams play the same way so that a player moving up through the age groups would know that he'd be working in the same team pattern or at least within the same overall playing scheme. Similar to a director of football but without responsibility for transfers and contracts.

Correct. Have we got anybody at the club who currently fulfils that role? I do think it would be a step down for Ashworth though: to go from looking after the England teams to looking after the teams for a small Prem (potentially Championship) club. And certainly currently where everyone agrees that England, at all levels, are moving in the right direction.

Barber's ability to write a needlessly long email seems to cloud some people's ability to recognise he isn't particularly competent.
In what regard(s) do you consider him not to be particularly competent?

What an odd statement. Can you give a specific example of Paul Barbers incompetence ?

This would be a fantastic appointment, although I'd challenge that it's an appointment that would enable Barber to move on, two completely different roles.

To be honest I hope PB sticks around for a long time, TB is building a formidable team around him.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Now that would be a statement...

Manchester United were rumoured to be looking at appointing him as technical director last month, if true and we still manage to get him, that would be a major coup.

What exactly does a Technical Director do? We have a manager, coaches, a recruitment team - is a Technical Director the same as a Director of Football? Or are we just going to pay someone thousands of pounds a week to say "attack more away from home"?

He oversees the Assistant Technical Director and reports to the Technical Producer
