2. It's disappointing that Ashworth has decided to take a job that will not provide as much of a professional challenge or, I imagine, as much job satisfaction. So you get to spend almost unlimited wealth and if you get a signing wrong you just make a more expensive one. How interesting.

Yeah but to what extent? Probably a few names of people they have met or heard good things about but are they available? Have they just taken another job elsewhere? Have they just been sacked for sending naughty text messages like Overmars? Are they interested in dropping down/stepping up to BHA?

It would be a huge job to follow every single potential Technical Director in the football world just in case ours moved on - and who is going to have that responsibility? Or, have we reacted to the Ashworth move by promoting Weir and lining up our next steps ?

That's likely why the Argus are reporting we're not in a rush and will see who applies.

It is mad how many people have read a couple of quotes about how wonderful our succession planning is and just assumed that we have a replacement ready to go.

It is interesting that compensation presumably wasn't agreed. Especially as in Naylor's words. "Newcastle have acted in exemplary fashion." So no suggestion they haven't played by the book.

The club can only sue for any financial loss they suffer and, as they have essentially banned him from contact with other employees and sent him home, it would be difficult to show any. In fact the club would be financially better off if they didn’t have to pay DA for the next 6/12 months.

I wouldn't want to speculate as to the contractual terms and I don't think people should on NSC.

In companies I've worked in before where we've recruited senior people who have been put on gardening leave by their current employer it was incredible how many times that individual happened to be drinking in the same bar or eating in the same restaurant as his new colleagues. It therefore makes complete sense to keep DA away from everything ASAP.

You think? #teamslikeBrighton have Bissouma (probably one of the best midfielders on the planet); Lamptey (one of the hottest properties in British football) etc. Ashworth knows all the secrets. He also knows who's on the end of the phone i.e. Tony Bloom and he ABSOLUTELY knows he's pissed him off.

I'll certainly not be surprised, if for example, Julio Enciso, washes up at Newcastle rather than Brighton in the summer window.

As to the latter point though, that is really of no concern at all. Yes, Ashworth knows what Bissouma and Trossard earn, and likely what they'd demand in a new contract. But so do his counterparts at every possible suitor in Europe. That is literally their agents' jobs. Anyone in the market for Bissouma this summer will already have been contacted by his people. That's the unfortunate reality.

He could. Although I doubt Newcastle would be allowed to hire him within the rules of the PL/FA during the gardening leave time frame. That's speculation, by the why. The alternative is an unregulated, Wild West situation within the league

Interesting contrast - Edwards happily working his notice at Liverpool - Ashworth turfed out unceremoniously on "gardening leave". Obviously Edwards hasn't (yet) declared himself for any other club, but he seems like the type of person who would fit in at BHA.

Yes, the club would obviously be better off finanically not paying his wages and accepting compensation to break the contract.

That's exactly what makes this instance unusual - Bloom taking a massive hit (£millions) to stop him starting work at Newcastle any time soon.

If nothing else, it makes other senior execs less attractive to potential poachers...

I keep hearing the Brighton project is not finished yet, and that's why people are disappointed with DA leaving.
The club is currently in 9th position in the Premier League, so I'm not sure how much more progress the club can make in the next few years.
Maybe DA thinks like this as well ?

Recruit the right strikers and we could be challenging for the league, apparently.
