I think he can only be judged by signings and the progress of our teams. In that sense I can’t see how he has been anymore successful than previous DofF’s. He’s signed Lamptey, a big plus, but the striker thing appears a massive failure. Previous DofF signed Biss, our best signing. Someone else spotted White, our most profitable departure. Overall, in the last ten years, we’ve made some great signings and we have been moving forwards. So I can imagine that continuing whoever comes in next.

Ben White joined when David Burke was in charge of that side of things. We’ve finally found something he got right.

We didn’t have his role until he was hired. He’s in charge of setting up the academy and the same rubbish names were recruiting for the first team. If you’ve noticed, all our good signings were super young and we’ve still failed to sign a striker. He’s not the issue and has excelled, whilst those around him have been crap. No proof just gut feeling.

I have no idea how much of a loss he would be, depends a lot on who we look to instead I guess, but I am sure he knows an awful lot about our club that we probably wouldn't want shared with any other club, particularly not a PL rival. Personally, I don't think I could stomach seeing that Staveley woman's face on a regular basis, or delivering a return for the investment fund, which may find it's way into supporting Wahabist Madrassa's around the world, or other projects funded by the Saudi regime.

We’re certainly a striker short but what’s the point of bringing in the wrong one? The right ones cost a fortune.

On another note, would any of you accept double your salary knowing it meant working for that regime? I’m not sure I would. You’d be forever apologising.

I know double your money would be a factor, but so is the so called project. To build a club like Newcastle must be a tempting project, and don't forget we got him because England couldn't compete with what we offered him.

They are quite an attractive option, especially financially, that is until you find the bodies!

The club want to keep Ashworth and from the outside it looks like he has put in a great framework for stability and achieving potential throughout the club.

I hope he stays, would be disappointed if he took the Saudi cash, but if he goes we have no choice but to move on and give someone else a chance to build on the foundations Ashworth has put in place.

If that was the case then Tony Bloom et al did a wonderful selling job - leave the England gig to go to a struggling lower Premier League club (or were we in the Championship when he joined?).

Remember, it’s Newcastle who have been given permission to speak to Ashworth - not the other way round. Unlikely as it may seem it could be that Dan Ashworth has a look at the Newcastle set up and rejects it as unsuitable. On their heads be it.

Not necessarily. Today's plan B may not have been available when we appointed Ashworth in the first place.

Much like Tony not having his cash earlier to buy albion, maybe there is a new option that wasn't around in 2018. One which is as good as Ashworth.


I agree that losing Ashworth would be a big loss - but as above we don't know what plan B is.

I hope he rejects newcastle it sounds like we want to keep him. Brighton job is still a very nice project. Dont forget we were given permission to talk to him when at england. If he stays I suspect he Will get a pay rise ala Barber when Liverpool were after him.

When looking at Newcastle people only see the Saudi. Sadly there is a lot more going for Newcastle than just them
