The only irreplaceable man at the club, is Mr. Tony Bloom.

When the club gained promotion from League 1 to the Championship, neither Ashworth or Potter were there. Mr. Tony Bloom was.

Very well said

Losing Ashworth is a blow, but directors of football will come and go. What we don't want is any of our young players or potential transfer targets to be swayed in the same way.

If a player want to go to Blood money Utd I don't blame them. At that age it's fair they shouldn't have the world knowledge to make them see outside their immediate career aspirations. A 50 year old man should know better. Sort of understand it with Howe, he was out of work and desperate for another PL job. But Ashworth was in a job somewhere. He should be ashamed of himself (i'm assuming he's gone in making that comment)

If some Saudi bloke appeared at your doorstep tomorrow saying, "we'll give Wilson to Brighton if you allow us to behead ten random Saudis..."... admit you'd think long and hard about it!

What don't you just **** off, you utter scum.

(Unless you're making a joke)

Do you really think we'll make him work 6 month notice knowing he'll be off to Newcastle?

Yes, well more thank likely he’ll be on gardening leave. I’d fully expect Tony Bloom to ensure his contracts are honoured, he’s not going to bend over just because it’s Newcastle. The only thing that may see Ashworth leave quicker is if his move is treated like that of a manager where we will be paid compensation for him instead.

As I said Newcastle know this isn’t going to be a quick process, hence Nicky Hammond getting the job to cover the January window. Ashworth won’t be the only person they are talking to or interested in so they won’t be rushing the appointment anyway.

They're desperate and they have unlimited money. And as soon as they nick him for 15m from us and he puts pen to paper he will be worth 50m again.

Lamptey was an ashworth signing as well ?

Yeh, the reason he might go there is coz they've got pots of cash. Ashworth going makes no difference, as it's hardly a secret this Bissouma is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, is it? It's not a dissimilar situation for Lamptey really.

Yes. We don’t give him ‘permission to talk’ if he is staying. You’d like to think that the club has a replacement in mind already.

Welbeck, Lallana & Lamptey had Ashworth written all over their signings. This is quite a big loss in my opinion.

It's well reported that the club have contingency for all their senior positions. Ashworth would definitely fall into that category.

It'll depend how stubborn we are about his contractual notice period. It must be 3 months minimum ?

Athletic reports that Ashworth's contract means that Newcastle would have to negotiate a settlement, which would no doubt supersede any notice period.

Why ?

Is Bissouma some well kept secret that only Ashworth knows about and has some close relationship with that he can’t wait to follow him.

No…. Thought not

Because he will likely know about what interest there has been in him and any offers that have been around. Plus his current deal or salary.

Of course nothing guaranteed but I do wonder why we've seen no firm offers for him so far

This would be a surprise, not only for the destination and ethical issues but more that he still has a job to do here.

We see Dan watching our youth teams and investing in the future with some promising young signings but we are yet to see this progress reflected in the senior side. He still has a lot of work to do here in my opinion.

There is a bit in The Athletic that says we have a policy of not blocking staff from considering opportunities that may be of appeal, this is deliberate because there is only so much that can be done to keep staff if they really want to go, but also our openness is more appreciated and often leads to people opting not to need.

So by giving permission we are only following internal policy and nothing is guaranteed. The same article says that Ashworth isn’t the only person they are talking to.

If a club want to find out his current wages and contract situation AND what offers there have been for him they would just speak to his agent …. Ashworth would actually know less than Biss agent if they wanted the inside track.

It might not be Bissouma Newcastle would go for I don't think. I have a feeling it would be Lewis Dunk because Ciaran Clark is an absolute " cart horse " in that Newcastle defence. And at Dunk's age of they throw money at him then he might go for it.

Ashworth is a bit of a **** isn't he?

We're going to have listen to a load of bulls*t as to why he went there - having only been here for a short period of time. He's going for the money, end of, to a horrible organisation with an abysmal human rights record.

It stinks, and if that's the type of person he is, I'm glad he's gone.

Apart from Sanchez, Lamptey becoming key first team players at 21 & 24. Richards having a few PL appearances, a U23 team that has really kicked on in the U23 PL, a WSL team that has gone from relegation fodder to Top 4/6 team .....

He was also part of the team that oversaw a transition from one of the oldest squads in the PL to one of the youngest in fairly quick time without any detriment

Oh and having many players out on loan in the EFL, top flight European leagues (more so than we have ever had)

Spot on, he's excellent at his job.

It's the classic old fashioned English football attitude of not trusting a Director of Football/Technical Director role despite the fact that it is an essential role in football these days. He would be a very big loss.

If they wanted Dunk, why would Ashworth going there make it more likely.

I think they learned that lesson with the Colin Calderwood to Villa episode.

In saying that. They blocked Dale Stephens move to Burnley when he wanted to speak to them that year when Brighton missed out on Promotion.

Andd when Dunk wanted to go to West Brom they blocked that and gave him a massively improved contract.

Yes but think about it. Newcastle are the richest team in the league. They could offer bissouma 250k a week without blinking. While they are still an unattractive prospect for big boys to join you will probably see some eye watering deals going through.
