I am sure Tony Bloom will feel very happy with himself having an unhappy player who wants to leave desperately being forced to stay on a lower salary, in a lower division, against his wishes - potentially being a bad influence in the dressing room, and absolutely resulting in mixed reactions from your fan base each game.

As it is, off the record it's pretty obvious we have already got personal terms with DS agreed, hence the repeated bids. If you think £7m+ for a guy who is nearing 28, has one year left on his deal and is desperate to leave is a poor offer, that is your prerogative. I would imagine the anticipated action now by Burnley FC is to either get him for £5m-ish in January or agree a pre-contract and get him for free next summer. For a man as canny as Tony Bloom no doubt is, it seems a rather petty way of doing business.

He's a. perfessional footballer who wants to play in the premier league to maximise his income.

The vast majority of footballers don't give a Schmidt about the team they play for, it's just another job.

I imagine if he stays he'll be pulling out the stops for us.

Wait til the last minute, maximise the price our club gets.

Remember, only the supporters really care about their clubs; the players not so much.

Some of our players do "appear to care" - rosenior, knocky, bong, Stockdale with their bond with the fans at away games, (others too) although I had always noticed Stephens never appeared to really truly engage with the fans, and build a relationship. We know that some have no loyalty to a club, and treat it as just another club. Maybe it is just Stephens personality.

Sorry, so you are saying your club has illegally agreed personal terms with one of our players when there's not been a transfer fee agreed. You might not want to say that.

As for petty, we signed him on a three and a half year contract, which he signed freely, so we have every right to turn it down, especially as he's been injured for one of those years and not been great for another half year so has only really been a good player for us for one year. Typical arrogant Premier League fan sadly.

Once again prejudice against Burnley rears it's head. I honestly can't stand the club or town but that is irrelevant to Stephens or anyone else in his position. There are LOADS of lovely places within half an hour drive. Do you honestly think that in his mind will be 'I'd like to play for Burnley in the premier league but the town centre isn't as nice as Brighton's'?

I'm surprised we didn't let him go for £7m, maybe he has been using Burnley to spark interest from other northern clubs?

Don't be a tit. TB has every right to say no. DS potentially he is under contract to BHA. Potentially and only potentially we may offer a extra few K a week to get a new contract out of him with a deal if we don t go up then he can be sold to a PL team in the summer. He's in pocket short term and will more than likely find a club in the PL next summer, either with te Albion on increased wages or someone else but at a sensible deal for us. He's a better player than Hendricks and if you had not waited till the final day to start making half sensible bids you may of got him this summer. I think it will be your loss

1. He's under contract and we don't need to sell him for financial reasons. And there is probably a point to be made there about resisting the financial muscle of a Premier League club.
2. He's important to us as a player.
3. I think you are under-estimating how level-headed and sensible Dale Stephens himself is in terms of what he does for the rest of the season.
4. If Burnley persist in trying to get him, we shall see.
5. At the end of the day, we probably don't care what Burnley think.

Top post and very, very true. This 'no loyalty' thing people continuously spout isn't true of all players. Mainly just the selfish ones. Some actually care about the club they're at. Doesn't mean they wouldn't move if a big club came in etc but they still clearly care. (Ps- Burnley for a season in the prem isn't a big move IMO)...
