IMHO Dale Stephens is a better all round player than Beram Kayal but they complement each other well.

I agree. Who is the harder to replace? 15% chance of goal from Dale Stephens, excluding he one that Hemed claimed.

Over the last 50 years at the Albion only Brian Horton 15% chance of a goal, but these included lots of penalties matched him for goal ratio to games played. There was one other (who I think was the best midfielder) for the Albion who scored in a remarkable 25% of matches and that was Danny Wilson.

CRAP! Stats don't back up your assertions. Goal threat from midfield in career history is Stephens 15%, Sidwell 14% Norwood 7% and Kayal less than that (can't remember might be 7%). cf. Bridcutt 1.3%.

Apart from the goals, the physical presence, abrasion, and set pieces in midfield needed. Couldn't match Newcastle without him.

I can't help myself. What on earth are you dribbling on about?

Naylor says it's all over - no ins and no outs for bhafc

Massive own goal if this is true, we do not have the strike force for anything better than the playoffs assuming none of our THREE forwards get injured. Surely we won't cock up on the striker front again?????

Going to be very frustrating thinking "what if" all season

Really hope this is not true.

I'd rather a quality striker and lose Stephens tbh

Huge disappointment. CH will have to be a great man manager to get Dale back firing on all cylinders!

you mean keeping by way of holding someone here that doesn't want to be here?

I'll trust CH's judgement on that.

He sees him day in day out. If he thinks keeping him is the best idea then who am I to argue when I have nothing to go on and he has all to go on.

Sometimes when the decisions made you can refocus on the job, he's been pushed by his agent to get a better deal and now he can work on playing in the Premier League with us

Of course it could be that DS, his Agent, TB, CH, Burnley, Hull and ANO are all having very mature professional discussions the way people in charge of multi-million pound negotiations normally do. TB and CH are saying 'we don't want you to go, give it till Jan' DS and Agent are saying 'but it might be my last shot at Premier, I could get injured again and spend another year out', Burnley, Hull, ANO are making offers.

At the end of the day TB and CH have the final say and will sell if they think the deal and replacement are right for the club. If not they won't, CH has always said DS has been extremely professional and DS knuckles down and gives his best till Jan. All very grown up and professional.

But I think NSC is probably right - BURN HIM :angry::angry:

So professional that, depending on what you believe, he has been unable to do his job properly for the last 3 weeks because either a) He is unable to give 100% due to the prospect of getting a slightly better job elsewhere (whether that is his or CH's assessment) or b) He came back from the summer break unfit.

We'll wait and see and I for one would love him to stay, and we may yet get a "full story" in which he comes across very well, but I doubt it.

I would only be slightly disappointed if true. Suspect we will see more of Murphy, Skalak and possibly Knockaert and Solly playing off Hemed and Murray.

With just three strikers? Not going to happen

Hugely underwhelmed if that's that case and it's all over. We get to keep a dissatisfied, want away midfielder, and we haven't firmed up a strike force that is, frankly, not up the standard required for promotion. Clearly we have reached our ceiling.

So Stephens is staying despite being unhappy and doesn't want to be here. I really don't understand the point in keeping him now.

What happens if Murray and Hemed are both out for a while?
