Get Dale to sign a new contract for three years in return for letting him go for £10m+. We get better money, he gets a cut of the dough and a big pay hike in the Prem. That would suit everyone if he's going anyway.
Stephens doesn't want to sign a Championship contract, that's why we're in this position!

Him (and his agent) are in the driving seat with this one, unfortunately.

You are possibly correct - However, Tony Bloom has the power to take away his licence and ban him from driving for 12 months

Totally THIS.

Stephens is either putting pen to paper on a Premier League contract now, or his best option in 12 months time.
Nothing else is on the table.

Good point, and he could put him in the reserves for 10 months, and lose £5.5m (at least) and continue to pay his sizable wages, but I think he has better business acumen.

That doesn't matter. It's not about him staying. He signs now so he's worth more; in return we let him go this window; and he gets a cut of the extra dough. Nothing to do with him actually intending to stay on the championship.

10 million for a player who has less than a year to run in his contact and never played Preimeriship football, is Pie in the Sky, no way will that happen. The club is right to reject £ 5.5 but add another million and that would be a figure Albion may find hard to turn down.

Except the rules have changed with the new Premier league TV deal. Hull are reportedly bidding £10m for Hendrick - and he isn't any better than Dale.

How about an increased contract now with a proviso that if we are not in the top 6 when the January window opens we will let him go. Do you think he would sign such a contract as I believe he can talk to clubs in January.

I think we did similar with Elliott Bennett.

I'm a bit surprised that Beram Kayal does not want to sign a new contract (if he hasn't) in case of injury. The same applies to Dale Stephens. Bung in a transfer release clause and there is a win-win situation.

I can see how Dale Stephens and Beram Kayal want to play at the highest level possible approaching the peak ages of their career, which is why they signed their existing contracts.

Money: with promotion bonuses, the earnings at Brighton may be a better deal than signing for Burnley with a relegation reduction over a three year period. This depends on results though.

A bit of extra training and Dale Stephens may even be quicker than Hendrick.

That would be a silly thing for him to do. What if he signs, then we don't get the offer we want, he's stuck here. He's also able to get better personal terms with his new club if he doesn't cost them much due to having only a year left.

Hendrick is under contract until 2018.
That only makes a difference to what the selling club might take. But another thing that affects what the selling club might take is their financial position, their desire for promotion and reliance on the player in question. Those last points mean we won't let him go cheaply. So we're back to how much he's worth to the buying club, and it's not unrealistic to think he's worth a similar amount as Hendrick, to the buying club.

Yep. But giving that Hull will have £20m in their back pockets from selling Hernandez (to the Championship ! to Villa ! insane !) they possibly won't mind forking a fortune for Hendrick.

It can't be insane, the football league have made it fair remember.

That's 'just' £20m of their resources though, both Hull and Burnley have a lot more than that now.

More riddles!

Thats not a riddle at all. Bloom/BHA hold his registration. He cant play for anyone else without that registration being transferred. If Bloom refuses to sell at any price its effectively preventing him from playing anywhere but here

If Stephens had two years left on his contract, I've no doubt he'd be worth 10 million plus. But he hasn't. The length of contract will very usually be reflected in the price.
