I am not surprised by the ineptitude of the FA but still totally pissed off. When Murphy was sent off it was at the same time they rescinded the red card for Gabriel for kicking Costa right in front of the ref so I queried the reasoning why one got of for a deliberate act and the other wasn't for a slip. The lower part is their reason for not publishing the justification the reasoning behind the Murphy sending off.

I've now sent the following. Don't expect an answer but it made me feel slightly better!!!!

I refer to the recent ludicrous decision to uphold the dismissal of Dale Stephens when tv evidence quite clearly shows Dean brandishing a yellow card before this being taken from him by Gaston.

I wonder whether the FA will be transparent about how they came to that decision or will remain as opaque as Blatter’s integrity?

As a coach of a junior team how the hell are we supposed to preach respect for referees and our, so called, governing body when the decisions of Dean and your disciplinary committee are so at odds with perceived justice. Can you guarantee that players will not be punished by referees if they also knock a yellow or red card from the referee’s hand?

The respect programme is a ludicrous sham. The professional game pay it lip service, referees pay it lip service and, quite clearly, so do the FA. An acronym for many things!!!!

One particularly galling thing is that, according not just to the refs' interpretation of the laws but also subsequent analysis of that interpretation, Joey Barton stamping on Beram Kayal is not even a yellow card, but Dale Stephens getting to the ball first and having his studs kicked by somebody who got there second is a straight red. Where the hell is the logic, the consistency of application of both the laws and the concept of retrospective action to put something right, in that?

We all know it's all about face, for the FA couldn't overturn this because they would look wrong to appoint Dean.

Morally wrong and makes a mockery of the game, shameful.

I just wish for once CH would drop his totally professional approach and let's rip at the next press conference. We have been on the wrong end of too many of these decisions this season.

Blame the protagonists all you like, but the basic problem is the rules. In practice there is often little difference between unsporting behaviour (yellow) and serious foul play (red) as Dean perfectly demonstrated by eschewing the former for the latter. But there is one hell of a difference between the punishments. We cant blame Dean or the appeal panel for that; they cant judge the seriousness of the offence by the consequences. I felt for Murphy earlier in season and Ulloa when he was sent off against Reading; a 3 game ban just felt unjust as it does here.

Not at all surprised because they couldn't leave themselves exposed legally, but it is a shocking decision. To get it wrong live on the pitch is one thing, but to then get it wrong after a considerable review is just a disgrace.

Who were on the panel? What accountability do they have?

It would appear that to play the ball when it is above knee height is now a red card offence which would be upheld on appeal. That would take heading the ball right out of the game.

Ridiculous, yet horribly predictable, decision by the FA.

Would be good practise for the rationale to be included as a matter of course. If the panel had to do a bit of work to justify why they are happy with a decision and punishment, might (just might) make them look at things a bit harder.

But they have been doing it like this for years - and doing it to far higher profile players. If nothings changed yet don't see how it ever will.

How else can you explain it? It is not a red card. The panel and fa must have had another force acting on then to make them make their decision.

Let's not be daft. It was a poor decision - but that's it. It couldn't be over-turned really without a potential massive legal shit-storm.
It's no more and no less than that.
