Dean was clearly influenced by the injury, his changing a yellow for a red after Ramirez's pitiful actions confirms this, rather than the challenge which was at worse a foul for foot up.

The referee's incorrect reading of the situation has potentially cost us automatic promotion, I hope his moment of fallibility doesn't effect our chances in the playoffs.

I have little faith in the FA but I hope our club officials are able to present the evidence as clearly as possible.

The ban received by Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas for his red card against West Bromwich Albion on Monday has been reduced from three matches to one following a successful appeal.

News of the amendment to the sanction was reported by the club’s official website on Wednesday in which it was revealed the champions found the initial punishment "excessive." Also included in the piece was an accompanying statement from The Football Association:

A claim by Chelsea that the three-match suspension for Cesc Fabregas is excessive has been upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

Fabregas was dismissed for violent conduct during the West Bromwich Albion FC v Chelsea FC fixture on 18 May. The Regulatory Commission has reduced the Chelsea midfielder’s suspension to one match, to be served with immediate effect.

It seems possible that the red card is upheld but it could be a one match ban instead of three. That way Dean doesn't lose face but the 'punishment' isn't as severe?

Hmmm. I'm not sure, but if they think the red card was fair and correct, why wouldn't they just apply the standard ban that went with it ?

To be honest I have no idea how they work though.

I think when you make an appeal you can either a) appeal the red card to get overturned, or b) appeal the length of the ban. Not both.

The shinpad question is only relevant if he was'nt wearing them , there is no law as far as i know that they must be of a certain size , just that they must be worn and made of certain materials , looking at the video it seems he was wearing some form of protection , probably ala JT's idea of health and safety.

Agreed, but one implication of Mike Dean's judgment is that a card will be of a different colour depending on the injured party's choice of shinpad, which is clearly nonsense. Dean is therefore leading us down an illogical path which should be rejected by the appeal panel. However, I'd be relatively happy with a one-match ban instead as a face-saving compromise.

If there was any recklessness, it is from their guy. He is not looking at the ball, his foot would not have ended up in contact with the ball even if Dale had not got there first.

personally wouldn't be happy if it was reduced to 1 game ban. should be totally cleared of any more punishment than the 40 minutes played with 10 men at boro. that 40 minute was an unjust punishment for no crime committed. why would we want to accept further punishment?. despite everyones obvious lack of confidance in the fa (mine included) I actually believe they will clear stephens from any ban. purely because it wasn't even a tackle and certainly wasn't reckless.

Your response actually captures the reason why they probably won't accept the appeal.

It could lead to a legal challenge as that match virtually determined who went up to the premiership and the wealth that goes with that. It probably wouldn't but they won't want to open the door for even a debate on it
