Harry Roberts shot and killed three police officers in 1966.

He is still in prison for this crime.

RIP these and all police officers that have put their life on the line for all of us.
The only ever ground i heard a chant about that at was Millwall

He'll never see day light again.

It's a shame they have cctv within that police station tonight, to protect the coward.

Why should it matter how far away from Brighton they were? My point is that Cretins who make sweeping statements about the Police in general might want to reconsider their unfounded accusations. That's 2 more officers who went to work only to never go home again. Yes, it was their choice to be Police officers, but it's a reality that life as a police officer means that one day you might never get to finish your shift and yet some people want to debate whether they are worth their pay packet or not?

My friend, the fact that two police officers have been disgracefully murdered does not alter the fact that the police have failed to convict one police officer after Guilford, Birmingham, Cardiff and that they have been caught plotting to pervert the course of justice in a restaurant in Sheffield after the Hillsborough disaster. It also does not get over the fact that the generous pension pay and conditions in comparison to the qualifications needed to be a policeman means there are people queing up to join. Respect to the the dead and their families but I do wish the police federation would try not to make political capital over a disgraceful murder as it really is not proper to do so.

I grew up about half a mile from where the murders took place and I'm struggling to come to terms with the impact it will have on the local community. I left a long time ago but it will always be where I grew up and to know this happened there is very hard to come to terms with - particularly as I still have friends and family in the area.

Feeling very low tonight.

I don't think this is the time, the place or the thread for such comments though.

I hope the Millwall fans at least have the decency on Saturday to not sing their 'hilarious' Harry Roberts chant though.

Believe me the pay and conditions are not that great for what you have to deal with!

I'm not sure police killers have a particuarly nice time in prison do they?
Dont think they get any harder a time than other cons , certainly dont get treated like nonces by the screws , and lets face it whatever you think of this blokes crime, he sounds a bit warm doesnt he ? not someone you'd like to fall out with as he obviously doesnt care about consequences.

Manchester United players to wear black armbands tonight as a mark of respect for the 2 police officers killed yesterday, really nice tribute

My condolences to the friends and family of the two policewomen killed yesterday but I don't see the relevance football has to do with this tragedy unless they were Manchester United fans? Obviously it's the same police force that will be around Old Trafford and the surrounding area tonight but football is increasingly getting more and more used as politics. Did Manchester City players wear black armbands for the innocent couple killed in a car smash by one of their own players? No. That had more to do with football as it may not have happened if the club hadn't funded an 18-year-old with mega money and to be able to afford to write off a very expensive Mercedes by driving like a maniac.

I can't help but feel that the game wants to get back some good publicity after the John Terry/Anton Ferdinand non handshake last weekend and this is it.

Or its just a mark of respect for 2 officers that lost there life's protecting the area in which Man United play. I think its fantastic the police play a huge part in football without them games would not go ahead, well not with fans in the ground anyway

That's pretty cynical mate. The decision has been made by the club as a mark of respect for a horrifying event that has shocked the whole country but mainly Manchester. Sometimes things are done for the obvious reason, not for a plan to deflect news from other events, this is about 2 dead police officers not a handshake!
