It'll be Burnley's messing around with an add-on for staying in the PL rather than paying a full fee which could scupper this.
Why would the albion accept an add-on for Burnley staying up ? Probably wouldn't need to be paid.

More to the point why should we even consider being the ones that take the gamble when we don't want to sell anyway. I hope their potential penny pinching means they don't get him, although desperation could creep in and if it's a last minute transfer we'll be one player light not having time to get in a replacement midfielder. Unless of course we already consider the cover to be adequate and are banking on him leaving.

As is every single player in our squad. Every player has a price, the trick is getting that price right and having contingencies already in place to offset their departure. Everything about the set up right now gives me confidence that the price is right and the contingencies are in place.

It might be too late to stop Dale Stephens going, but if he took a step back and looked at the strength of the Brighton squad against the Burnley team, then arguably he will have a better season with us.
Signing a new contract with us with a very high buy-out clause will still mean he will get his chance in the Premiership next season, hopefully with us.
We are 3rd favourites with the bookmakers to win the league, 3rd favourites for promotion and 4th favourites to win the play-offs.
Next season it is unlikely Dale would be in the Premiership with Burnley, they could end up second from bottom, with Hull below them.
The teams in the bottom half of the Premiership are all going to be stronger this year, and that includes Bournemouth and Sunderland, with maybe only Swansea weaker.

Albion 7/2 to go up.
The situation you describe (Burnley down, us up) is in reality a 7/1 shot. So 6 times in 7 Dale is better off moving.

I disagree with those saying a fee of 6-7m is 'too good to turn down'. That's bollocks, we paid 700k for him so what exactly do we need to recoup?
You may answer that TB wants some money back and sees it as bad business to lose the potential value of a player we have made/has made himself at this club, but we have a far better chance to get the PL riches if he stays so do we really need that 6-7m now?
All boils down to the player. DS doesn't strike me as someone who is going to disrupt, so surely hanging on until January would be best for all concerned.

You don't rate Sidwell then or think that maybe the club have already brought in a replacement in Norwood?
At the moment I am more concerned about central defence where we are very light as things stand.

Indeed. Players bonuses would be a small part of the £170m extra revenue we'd receive.
