With hindsight it was a really shit joke on my behalf, I simply claimed that a show filmed in the 60's with a cast of mostly old/middle aged men was "cursed" as, here we are in 2014, and most of the cast have died.

I assumed you were referring to the actual belief that the programme was cursed in that the cast died young.

Whenever a cast member dies, the press will go on and on about only Ian Lavendar being left etc.. etc...

The only one who died young was Private Walker. I think it's also influenced by the fact that John Le Mesurier carried on playing the part when he was obviously very ill.

Although still funny as a youngster I never got into the characters. Now that I do I love it even more. I cannot think of a poor or boring one even parts like the verger, Mrs Fox and Mr Blewitt were fabulous.

The bit parts were very good, Wendy Richards was in it and as for Mavis she was extremely well acted.

Mainwaring wouldn't let them break in because " thats the sort of things the Germans do" so they had to use Frasers pennies which he was very reluctant to give away. Brilliant stuff.

Growing up during the 80's i recall watching the then feature length Dads Army. All i remember is the blue and white butchers van being driven along country lanes and there were multiple rifle holes in the side. I wouldn't mind seeing that again to refresh my mind.

You were probably in Chalfont St Peter or Little Chalfont then. Or maybe they filmed it at an identical place to Chalfont St Giles in Kent and lied to everyone so they did not have to move everyone to do those last shots at the end of the film.

I was not disagreeing with you i said i believed it was Kent but being from Kent myself i never recognised the high street scenes and thought unless its a set that it must have been filmed somewhere else outside of Kent or Sussex after all the series was filmed in Norfolk that much i do know.
The last bit about the cliffs I was just being facetious.

You cheeky devil! Dad's Army is a serious subject! [and you did say Kent]. I thought the bit at the end might have been Beachy Head but of course it could have been Dover.

I really like the idea of Bill Nighy as Sgt Wilson, but John Le Mesurier was just sublime in the part.
I also think Michael Gambon as Godfrey could be good, but would have some way to go to beat the original.

There was the one where Mannwaring wanted to set-up river patrols and in the church hall briefing there wasb blackboard with a coastal map drawn on it and someone asked about The Germans being in The ENGLISH Channel to which Mannwaring reply was something like 'there be no Germans in the English channel'.

Yep another great episode that was.
Another was when Mainwaring was giving a slide show so the troops could recognise a German by his uniform but Mainwaring kept pointing out that the eyes were very close together or that it had a bull neck even though they were only drawings.
" notice that the eyes are very close together with a shifty look, thats typically Nazi, keep a look out for that"
