The BBC commentator said that the Czechs *could* qualify with a draw. It says the same thing on the BBC website. Correct me if I'm wrong, but surely the Czechs WILL qualify if they draw because even if Greece beat Russia, the Czechs would finish above them because of the head-to-head result between the two teams. How can the BBC not know this? Incredibly unprofessional.

You're right. I think the commentator knows too, maybe a slip?

He said earlier 'The Czechs know a draw will probably be enough providing Greece don't surprise Russia'. Wrong.

He just said however 'The Czechs know a draw will be enough'. Make your mind up!

The website still says 'could'.

Pretty poor really that they don't understand how the group placings work!!!

Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);
Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points)

This isn't the easiest to understand - Head to Heads only count before GD if there are more than 2 teams on the same points. Here, there aren't, so GD comes into play first. Hence Greece needing to beat Russia heavily in order to overtake the Czechs if they do indeed draw...

It's head-to-head then GD.

I'm even more confused now - here's the full list of criteria:

Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);
Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);
If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3 to more than two teams, two teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine the final rankings of the two teams. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 10 apply in the order given;
Superior goal difference in all group matches;
Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
If two teams which are tied in all criteria 1 to 6 play their last group match against each other (i.e., the result is a draw and the two teams have the same number of points, goal difference and goals scored), and provided no other teams within the group have the same number of points, the ranking of the two teams in question is determined by penalty shoot-out. Otherwise, criteria 8 to 10 apply in the order given;
Position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system;
Fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament);
Drawing of lots.

Gawd, I think you're right. I take it all back. How is the average fan meant to understand this?!

Is the Czech right back playing who we were looking to sign till it became clear he would cost £2 million?
