Cyclists who ride on the road and ignore traffic lights

And I have seen many car drivers going through red lights often in excess of the speed limit, I've seen cyclists forced off the road by careless lorry drivers and threatened by pedestrians determined to walk 3 abreast down the cycle lane. But lets blame all the highway code breaches on the poor bloody push bike riders.

How many of you car drivers can honestly say that you never break any driving rules, never do 35 in a 30 limit, never go through even an amber light? And you are driving a lethal weapon, so sort your own driving out before you run others down, pun intended.

So how exactly does the behaviour of others justify or excuse the poor behaviour of cyclists? It's just not relevant.

If I steal something, it can't be justified or excused by other people doing it.

I cycle and drive. I don't go through red lights when doing either because it's dangerous. That's the kind of sensible man I am - I also get up at night when I hear thunder approaching and close the windows too.

I did witness a near collision between two cyclists by The Level, when one going through a red light so very nearly hit the one going through a green light. Would loved to be a fly on the wall had they hit.

Just seen 3 bikes do this at the intersection on London road by Aldi one nearly got flattened by a bus, I know it's been done to death but is this actually against the law? I don't have an issue with cyclists but if you're going to cycle on roads surely you have to abide by the laws of the road?
You are actually allowed to run them over if they do that....its the law*

*its not the law.

Car drivers hate cyclists. Cyclists hate car drivers.
Can't we all just live in harmony with each other ?

Funnily enough, many cyclists are also car drivers. I get on pretty well with myself.

My greatest beef with cyclists are those who ride on the pavement and expect pedestrians to give way to them. As regards lights why cant we adopt the American idea of allowing you to go through a red to turn left if the route is clear. Also I didnt realize that it was in the Highway Code that you can jump red lights at roadworks if your exit is clear.

I think you'll find most of us cyclists with a good few years driving experience are much more respectful of the highway than your average risk taking 'hot dog' cyclist.

Although this is the same for your average 17/18 year old male driver with over sized exhaust on his pimped up Fiesta.

I see cyclists jump red lights. I see vehicles jump red lights. I see people in vehicles driving along texting or having their lunch in their lap. They are all morons.

I've just been out on a 50mile ride and about in Sussex and pretty much every driver was respectful as I was back. Luckily the morons on whatever mode of transport are few and far between.

• In 2010, the number of killed or seriously injured cyclists (70) was the highest since 1998.
• The 70 cases included 12 children. There were 3 deaths (all adults).
• The cyclist KSI rate was 5.2 per 100,000 population, which is 12% above the national average, even though in terms of journeys made, cycling in Merseyside is well below the national average, at 1% of journeys made.

Hardly Dignitas, is it?

Id be interested to hear if you feel the same about anyone who's ever smoked cannabis ?

Not really sure as whilst it illegal, it does not directly impact on others like jumping red lights so probably no.
So long as it does not involve drug driving, in which case yes.

They may not be very good at it, but it doesn't stop them trying. The students are worst - god knows how some of them make to graduation - straight over the dual carriageway without looking.

FML... bore off with cycling post. Cretin

Well that's a pleasant post. I didn't actually say anything against them did I? I have no issue with cyclists who aren't idiots and who, if they choose to cycle in the road, abide by the law. I have cycled a lot myself although not a huge amount on roads but anyway thanks for your insult I shall cry myself to sleep tonight.

If anyone of the cyclists on here had either a) gone through a red light b) gone up a crossing to avoid having to wait I would like to say you are an idiot. Thanks :lolol:

But I can be blamed for the actions of others. I am a cyclist and I obey the road laws and highway code yet I am lumped in with all the other 'idiot cyclist' etc etc.
