Just wondering in what order other cyclists would place.

Ditchling Beacon
Coldean lane
Rottingdean to Falmer
Saddlecombe (from roundabout to golf club)
Bear Road
Wilson Avenue

Feel free to add others but think they must be over 800mts long to qualify.

Have recently done 2 and 3 to and from Albion games. 2 is harder than 3 which is a long crawl. The Beacon is the hardest, mainly because of the traffic trying to get round you. Used to do 5 and 6 a lot as a kid - not much in it. Clayton Hill is also a slog if you try to avoid the Beacon.

Not cycled up it myself but watched the Tour de France come up Elm Grove a few years ago and even Chris Boardman had to get out of the saddle

He's not known for being a mountain goat though.

Bear road. On a track bike. Down it.

Whatever that road is that goes from London Road up to the PDSA near Preston Park.

As someone who regularly cycles up and down Stamford Avenue I'd rate that as an extremely arduous experience. The gradient isn't monstrously prohibitive, but it just goes on and on, and because it's so straight you can see the entire experience mapped out in front of you, laughing in your face, as you set off up it from the bottom.

Biked from Eastbourne to Burgess Hill last Good Friday with a hangover. South Downs Way. That was pretty gruelling.

Beautiful sight of a brand new Falmer made me smile though!

As a mountain biker - The big four tarmac climbs between E/B and Brighton I would consider in order of difficulty as:

Ditchling Beacon - long & windy never sure when end is near - traffic
Butts Lane E/B - tough start and finish plateau in middle
Bo Peep - two nasty steep corners often into head wind
Firle Beacon - gradual can gety good rythm going

I'm not going to be a great deal of help on these, but.

Ditchling isn't that bad, as road cycling goes, because of the bends.
You can ride them out wide and cut back in so for a moment you're actually going down hill.
I've not ridden up Coldean but have my quickest ever time, on a bike, coming down it, 49.1mph.

Get yourself up The Steyning Bostal or worse still Cobb Lane (Ardingly way).
The only 2 climbs in Sussex have had to get off on.
I can do Steyning now, but Cobb Lane is 3-0 up.

I'd like to nominate King George VI Avenue ( otherwise known as Snakey Hill ) in Hove. Not too bad once you get to the top, but the bottom bit from Goldstone Crescent is really knackering!
