Typical luck today.

I did my longest ride, under clear blue skies, with the sun on my back.

I got passed by KLL at Long Furlong, then headed down the Angmering by-pass.

For those that don't know it (and why should you) it's the most barren stretch of road in Sussex.
Not a house, shop, hedge, tree, or even a bush for 2 miles, behind Worthing Rugby Club.
Although it does have one of the sweetest bits of tarmac very smooth, a fraction of a decline, and dead straight.

Anyhoo, I digress.

As I turned onto the by-pass I rode straight into a hailstorm, pretty much for the duration of the road.
The moment I hit the A259 all's good again.

Very very painful.

How far did you ride? How quickly?

Did KLL overtake you on a bike?

Synae in for service. I'll tell you what, I'm no stranger to changing a rear wheel now, but try doing it in your suit in your work car park.

Anyone staying up for the Worlds tonight? I'm considering it, will see how tired I feel in an hour or so.

You can now pick your team for the first of the Spring Classics, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, there are loads of 'classics' this year in the fantasy comp. Pretty exciting.

Nope, still struggle to get into track racing.

I saw some claims that there's going to be a highlights programme of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Sky Sports 2 at 11.30pm Saturday night, but no tv guide suggests that. Hope a highlights programme does appear as I won't be able to watch a live stream (assuming I could find one).

10, put 'Omloop Het Nieuwsblad' in the sky listing guide search box. Done.

If you mean on my telly?, I don't actually HAVE Sky - perish the thought! I would watch a stream on crictv.

I searched online guides and got no joy.

Are you saying it is on then?

Edit: Just tried it online and you're right. I was just searching on Sky Sports 2 on the guides. Seems it on 1am on SS4 or the next day on SS3

Did he bollox, I wouldn't have taken that.
No he was in his white BMW nos plate ending LUA.

30 lumpy miles, I felt good till the hail.
My Garmin is unhappy about being pressed into service after such a long lay off and had a pooh fit.
Apparently, today, I rode for 48 hours!!, so the timings are a little off.

All very competent though, certainly 17+ mph.

The roads were horrendous back in the day, but they are so much worse now.
Not a mile goes by with some kind of crater in the road.
I particularly 'enjoyed' the one at the very worst point of the 17% descent into Houghton.

Swerving it almost resulted in a serious accident, as would hitting it.

The deterioration over the last couple of months has been incredible. Road surfaces have disintegrated, and damage to bikes is now hard to avoid.

I'm impressed with your speed, Stat, if not with your Garmin!

I see Velocast are trying to shake us down again. Now going to be £7.99 a month to listen to their podcasts! Good luck with that fellas, £3.99 a month gets you Eurosport where you can watch the actual races they are talking about. Netflix which they claim is their model is only £5.99 and you have access to virtually every movie and TV show ever. Or £7.99 to listen to two Scottish guys blather on about cycling :nono:

It's not even been icy.
They could be a whole lot worse.

The speed isn't to bad, I guess spending my non cycling time walking 5-10 miles a day (freakin work & dog!!) has kept my legs going.
But I just don't have the distance (freakin stomach) and can't ride with a 'new' mentality (slower for further).

That's me!
I just had a look back to the figures of a sportive when I remembered going well.
I just wanted to see if I was being billy big bollox (lying) about past 'glories', or too hard on myself now:-

Distance: 86.57 mi
Time: 4:48:52
Avg Speed: 18.0 mph
Elevation Gain: 5,016 ft
Calories: 5,922 C

I doubt I could do that in the car, although I could easily consume those calories!!
I'd hate to think how long it would take to get me from now, to 86 miles, irrespective of speed.

Who's taking the magic 10k post, it certainly won't be me, not tonight anyway.

I go over to watch them quite often.

Always a good weekend although not in '04 when HV was cancelled due to snow. Pre mobile internet, it took me a while to realise...
