Did you manage to get the chain sorted? If you don't have a set of chain pliers you should be able to get the powerlink to lock into place by putting some force through the pedals. Just sit on the bike, back pedal a bit then pedal forward to lock into place. If it's a new link you should be able to get it apart again fairly easily. Drop of chain lube before linking together will help.

Genius! Just done exactly as suggested and it locked in an instant!

You absolute beauty! Thanks

Are you any good at gear fettling by any chance

Just looked at the Strava group - there are now 72 members! I have started a discussion on there, so if you are a member of the group, 'out' yourself in that discussion with your NSC username.

I've gone first.

What a lovely colour this Pantani inspired, 20th anniversary of Pantani's Tour/Giro double bike is.
A fitting tribute to Pantani, by Bianchi.
Who wouldn't want to honour Pantani by spending a bazillion pounds on Pantani's up to date bike, with this beautiful retro Pantani colour scheme

Quick question - I've just bought some new bar tape & its arrived without any adhesive backing to it!?!

I've wrapped my bars loads of times over the years, but the tape has always had an adhesive strip to hold it in place. Is it OK to wrap without any? A friend says as long as you wrap it tight enough it should stay in place.

Any Geeks tried and tested a non sticky method before?

The only tape I've ever wrapped myself is Cinelli Bubble as that is my tape of choice

I've just finished wrapping new on because of doing the gear shifter and it has a sticky strip on the back, so no idea how non sticky will work but I tend to agree with your mate that if you do it tight enough it will hold fine.

I'm liking the car sticker Cinelli now include with this tape too btw

No worries... Indexing? Yeah not too shabby...
Hmmm I'm not too sure how welcome you now are around these parts.

Fookin precision indexing, and fookin bar tape for that matter, the darkest of dark arts.

Indexing done yesterday as good as I was going to get it up on the stand. New bar tape on this morning.

Just back from evening ride to test everything out and it felt like a new bike with the new chain and bar tape on! Lovely ride on a lovely evening :)

One little skip in one gear on the way down, recitified if I go past it then back up to it again. What with the old chain being stretched though it might just justify a new cassette to finish the job off good and proper and sneak onto an 11-28 jobby from the existing 12-27

Do any SPD-L combi pedals exist?

For my general around town, winter hack, cross bike, I'd ideally like SPD-L for my road shoes one side, flat the other. SPD-L pedals very nearly achieve this anyway, and are okay to wear in trainers etc. just wondered if anyone had seen a pedal design that actually uses the rear side with a bit of grip for normal shoes?? Gap in the market!?

Like these adapters I guess...https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bike-Dabs-SPD-SL-Clipless-Adapter/dp/B00JQJOJA8

How does a Continental Contact II 700c Commuting Tyre compare to a Schwalbe Marathon for puncture resistance please?

Is it good enough?

NB: Previous Schwalbe Marathon sidewall split. Normally, Schwalbe are really the biz. No punctures for 5000 miles good.

Can't really help with a comparison, but my wife has the Contact IIs on her bike and never had a puncture with them to date (not huge miles mind) and I actually think they are a fairly fast tyre for what they are. You pay a bit more for Conti's but generally they are very good tyres.
