It's International break time and surely an opportunity to stage another NSC Cycling Geeks ride.

Last time out we headed west. This time I suggest we go east.

So, who is up for it? Who wants to stick it in the diary today?

Gutted, I'm skiing. Will be up for the next one.....

Apparently one of the stages, stage 3 I think, is supposed to have some lumps in it, but I can barely see them looking at the profiles. Mind you, why else would the likes of Nibs, J Rod & AVV bother turning up otherwise :rolleyes:

:lolol: No, I can't think either, must be the warm weather and glorious scenery or something :dunce:

17% finish apparently, cannot find any profiles for the stage though, just the flat map on their website. Might be interesting?

It was interesting to see Nibali take charge on the front of the peloton from 3km out, I like the way he does things like that, you do not really see Froome or Contador do that.

Anyone doing The Puncheur on the 8th March?
I left booking too late and am currently 4th reserve.

I spoke to the fella running it and he pretty much said the subs won't be getting a game.
I'm pretty disappoint as my second bout of winter training has taken a hit without the motivational carrot of tough ride in March.

(I'm currently drinking tea and eating chocolate Hobnobs. I'm guessing that's not technically tapering, is it?)

In between arsing around on here and walking stat dog, today I have stripped down my winter hack.
This is the first year it's done some proper miles and was/is sounding rough.

2 questions:-

1 - In 4 days time I'll be needing to remove the bearings from one side of my Campag Ultra Torque BB.
Without using a £50 Park tool, how?

B - Why am I not dead?
My brake pads were non existent, my chain had more grit in it than Blackpool's pitch and the bearings on the other side of the BB disintegrated in my hand.
Look after your bike kidz.
On the plus side at least Wiggle are currently sending me some more Haribo. :thumbsup:

B - Why am I not dead?
My brake pads were non existent, my chain had more grit in it than Blackpool's pitch and the bearings on the other side of the BB disintegrated in my hand.

I've also noticed my levers getting f close to the tape lately. Quite pleased the service is due. What are bearings? I'll leave that sort of thing to the LBS. Discovered my wheels have sellotape on them after attacking the bike with a power hose. That explains why I could never get them properly clean.

Looking comparatively tropical this weekend. Expect a Sunday ride.

[MENTION=3858]Motogull[/MENTION] the bearings are what makes your crank turn!!
Ultra Torque and I think the fishing tackle equivalent is Hollow Tech does away with the need for a bottom bracket (the encased spindle that connects the 2 crank arms).
Instead the 2 separate crank arms are screwed together inside the BB shell.
Each Ultra Torque crank has a ring of bearings that nestle inside cups, they keep the whole thing moving.

My bike was sounding and feeling rough because the right side bearing unit was on it's last legs.
As they take a bashing they are securely attached to the crank so the problem is removing what's left of the casing (and all of the other side) without resorting to my 'magic hammer'.



As for the cartoon, that probably isn't to far from the truth.
My late great dog spent his whole life marvelling at my greatness, but he was a fookin idiot.
The one I'm left with was always the brains of the operation so he probably calls me that most days.

Haha!! Maiden ride for tomorrow as I'm back on nights all weekend. I'll have to break her in gently so not expecting many PR's. :thumbsup:

I've thought it didn't make much difference, either way, to the likes of 'us'.
Reading in depth reviews of how a new bike handled always made me think they were over egging it to justify the piece.

But riding my aluminium frame carbon forked hack this winter is changing my opinion.
Comfort wise there isn't much in it, although the carbon does win out.
But road handling, cornering etc, the hack is just not as responsive.
That seems odd just writing it down, but I've had some pretty scary moments this winter, in places I don't usually think twice about.

You're going to have a great time, with a big idiot grin on your face.

Oh one other thing:-

Have you kept the same gear ratio?
If you've changed to a compact from a double I'll be interested to know what you think of the difference.

The gears are the same as I have on the Bianchi. Campag 50 34. Just a slightly better spec.
