I must admit I was very sceptical at first but Strava has bitten me.

Doing the same commute over and over can get a bit boring but tracking my fitness and having little bits of interest along the way has really helped.

You weren't half right about that horse sign Stat Brother! What a delight when I saw that!

But I made it despite a painful pull to the calf in Plumpton. Onwards and upwards!

Well played. Now you know you can do it, you can step it up.

edna krabappel, that's a great ride. With your marathon running, I knew you'd have the base fitness to step up more quickly than others. I have to head out that way, lovely area.

It's nice riding around Ashdown Forest, I've decided. I say forest, it's mostly heathland that I know of, but it's always good to have a bit of scenery to admire whilst riding, & you could see for miles across the Weald today. That in turn makes me feel like I've got to the high point & it's all downhill from there.

Bit like the new "forest" then!

I had to drive a similar route across Ashdown Forest on the way to a job the other night. Less fun, as the fog had descended to about 15m visibility, it was pissing down, & that area has a significantly higher than average quota of suicidal deer after dark.

Doing it on the bike was, I can report, much more comfortable. Apart from riding straight over a carelessly discarded pair of pliers, it was relatively hazard-free

Can someone point Edna in the direction of The Wall.

The most overated climb in Lesser Sussex, but is probably quite fun to track your progress on Strava.

I have no idea what you are talking about IL.
Flagged, some bloke called Paul.

What's going on.

Well done.

How did you do it?
Did you follow Bold's advice re gears and tempo etc?

Which was your advice to me a couple of years ago!
Ah but with you being two and a half minutes quicker up Ditchling it sounds better coming from you.

The Wall is Kidds Hill. It is about a mile long at about 9%, and is quite tough. It's main 'selling point' is that it is a long, straight ramp, and if you look up, you can see the top from down near the bottom.

Quite near there are Yorkshill and Titsey Hill. Both of these are absolutely horrible - they were in a sportive I did recently, and it was all I could do to stay on my bike. Stay away from these. They make Cobb Lane seem like a walk in the park.

I had a whole 2 hour lecture on the difference between "Forest" and "forest" when i was at uni! Fascinating stuff! Suffice to say the one with the small f is the one with the trees!

"Quite near" for you means "not very near" for normal people though. Yorks Hill is not that far west from Carter's Hill which is a breaker. Might mosey on over before too long.
