I'm contemplating riding in again today, although as I don't finish my shift until midnight, I'll have to go out and buy a set of reasonably decent lights first.

My first ever ride to work yesterday. My route, normally filled with speeding motorists, was beautifully quiet at 4:45am, it felt like quite a privilege to have the Mid Sussex countryside to myself (didn't need lights then as the sun had just come up).

That's dedication - I struggle to drag myself onto my bike for the commute at 6.30am!

Do you usually drive? I sometimes drive in and cycle home, then do the opposite the next day. Particularly useful when the shifts are moving around.

How are you getting on with Garmin.

Its great - forgot how having all that info pushes you on a bit more. Can get a bit stale when you essentially ride the same route every time.

I can see how its easy to get sucked into the Strava thing - I had a go at a segment where I'd lost the KOM yesterday and was really pissed off that I got held up by a car! Who the hell goes up a hill at 20mph in their car!?

Can you put stuff on your Strava log retrospectively, if you didn't record a ride at the time?

I cycled to & from work yesterday & forgot to record each ride. Just wondered if I can update it manually, as it were.

Just watching the Dauphine and I thought I remembered Boardman winning it back in the day - turns out he was 2nd in 95 behind Indurain and won a mountain stage in 94. He also won the Criterium International, was 3rd in Paris Nice and 2nd in Romandie!

Given that it was once said (by Bassons, I think) that Boardman was the only clean rider in the World's top 100 in the mid-90s what could he have achieved? If he was 20 years younger then I think we'd be talking about Sir Boardman not Sir Wiggins!

I don't mind being humiliated on a climb, but getting dropped bumping up a kerb would be to much for my fragile ego to take.

I don't know what came over me, but I got all ASBO militant, this evening.
We were riding one and a half out, down a half mile long, dead straight, back road, with no other traffic.
A car overtakes with mother and teenage daughter.
The gobshite daughter hangs out the back window screaming 'single file - learn the highway code'.
We laugh it off.
Mother takes ages to get out of the junction at the bottom.
Then turns into a lay-by.
As we pass I shout back 'learn the highway code before gobbing off', I know, classy!! (you can tell I'm not used to this sort of behaviour).
Through an s-bend, mother comes past again.
This time gobshite daughter screams 'pay your road tax before gobbing off'.
The road straightens up towards a junction.
Phil says 'let's do it'.
I catch his wheel, and then take it on.
Mr Garmin says I was doing 30.6mph gaining on the car.
Daughters eyes are getting bigger as I'm gaining on them.

All I needed was one car to be crossing the junction and we could have had a civilised conversation about road etiquette.

Sadly it wasn't to be, and we all headed our separate ways, with a little story to tell.

My Garmin is on the centre bit of the stem.
When I clip the unit in, I always push to hard, pushing it off at an angle.
I never sort it out straight away, and then not having the unit 'flat' really does my head in.

Straightening it up this time I accidentally pressed god knows what, but didn't notice till halfway road, missing out all the Bognor coastline.

A strong showing so far today from Team Geek, so far clocking up 242 miles on the roads of Lesser Sussex, West Sussex, and god forbid Hampshire.

Brighton to South Manchester.
or
Brighton to the outskirts of Brussels.
(we could really do with an 'extra' 15 miles).

Collectively, so far, Team Geek has also climbed up to Chandrakhani pass in the Himalayas, at 12,800 Feet.
