Hey, this has probably been discussed tirelessly on this thread, but 750 pages is too much for my poor fuddled brain to search through. Basically I'd like to know if any of you guys would recommend a particular camera, that balances value with battery life, sound quality, and clarity of picture. Is the GoPro camera the go-to model to buy, or does anyone know of another make that offers a reasonable compromise between cost and performance?

Up til now I've used a crappy 20 quid mini DV camera mounted on the handlebars, but as summer is approaching and I have more free time after uni, I'm starting to look more seriously at better options. Budget-wise, I'd rather not fork out more than £80. Amazon is OK for reviews, but there never seems to be much consistency from one review to the next. Thanks one and all.

As Pogue says, just look at the time gaps now between Evans in 3rd and Hesjedal in 9th - less than a minute between the lot of them! Imagine actually winning the thing being up for grabs between that lot rather than just the other two podium spots.

Not wishing to blow my own but I called that 2 weeks ago.
Nobody was out of this race, all the time it was so heavily back loaded.

We've not done this to death, because I don't think any Geek owns one.

I can't help thinking that's probably a blessing, we'd fill this thread with footage of various descents, little glances at max speeds, until it ends up very messy for someone.

Like yourself someone popped in a couple of months ago, and got pointed in some directions but I'm afraid I can't pin it down any more than that.

Not been watching but is Swift in with a shout in the Giro today

He would have been, sort of, had there been enough strong sprint teams to control the race. As it was a 25 man break went up the road and everyone just let them go - 14 minutes in the end

Considering how well Swift has been climbing - 25th on yesterday's stage! - and that the likes of Bouhanni and Mezgec and possibly Nizzolo wouldn't have been too troubled by that 1 km steep climb 20km from the finish, Swift would have been there at the end no bother but probably struggle to actually win the stage.

Beware if you decide to ever watch back the full stage on demand offering from Rai. I went there because I wanted to pick up again from about 30km out. Unfortunately, when you go to their site for coverage they already tell you who the winner of the stage was I still watched though as was keen to see just how things panned out, and that little climb towards the end in particular. I feel a bit for Sir Thomas of De Gendt today I must admit, but don't begrudge Pirazzi his win as he earnt it today and has been so lively all Giro.

This may well have already been covered before, so apologies if it has, but I just came across this passage in 'Racing Hard', a collection of Will Fotheringham's Guardian & Observer articles of the last 20 years.

"Sam Collins, now a doctor in Dorset, was Wiggins' main opponent on the West London racing circuit. "The first race I won was the first one he ever did, we were both about 12. We raced together pretty much every weekend from 1992. He was a sprinter, he'd zip off my wheel, he'd come first, I'd come second. He had natural zip."

I knew IL had pedigree, but that it is pretty high class!

Naturally Mr Hide My Light Under A Bushel (what's a bushel) was far to polite to say it's ok he had it covered.

Everyone should be fookin grateful I don't have even 1% of IL's pedigree, I'd have been run out of dodge years ago for being the ultimate CJTC. (and yes I'm aware we can all add a 'comedy' line after that one)
