I must be very clear, that it is the wind blowing into my shirt that gives the FALSE impression that I am a bit FAT :jester:

Sure...

Well done, that is a pretty impressive time for a first go, I think. I've never had a go on a proper velodrome, would love to one day.

Hello geeks.

I usually stay away from here as your all confuse me with your cyclegeekness, but I thought I'd drop in.

As some will know, I do a fair bit of work at various velodromes, but despite knocking about the places, I'd never actually had a ride, until a couple of weeks ago. I was at a short conference at the UCI World Cycle Centre at Aigle, and they laid on a flying lap competition for us.

Given that it was the first time in almost a year I'd sat on any kind of bike, and the first time ever riding a fixed gear bike / a bike with no brakes / having my feet clipped into the pedals, I was quite pleased with 2nd place (of 25), with a lap time of 16.052.

The guy who beat me (by 0.2 secs) was my Dutch counterpart (no surprise there) and in my defence he's 17 years younger than I am!

First prize was a £350 Tissot watch, so whilst I was quite pleased with my efforts, a bit gutting all the same...

I must be very clear, that it is the wind blowing into my shirt that gives the FALSE impression that I am a bit FAT :jester:

Very impressed, you would have thought a Timex for second and a cheap Casio for 3rd place, they should have handicapped you all by starting at different points like in the Revolution series. You would have won then. Oh and nice bike, did they let you keep it.

That's a bloody good time.

I'm due to do the velodrome at the Olympic Park in a few weeks time. You've given me something to aim for.

What tooth were you using on the cog?

You what? A metal one I should imagine.

You're cycling at the Olympic Velodrome? How, why, when etc?

Quite brilliant HKFC, chapeau.

Just think, if you'd worn proper cycling shorts, you'd have won! I'm sure you've got a watch already, though, so not a problem, eh?

Have you been in a velodrome before?

Only the one at Roubaix.

I WILL fall off. I promise pictures of me on my backside.
That's ok then, London will look EXACTLY the same as that.
I'd imagine the gradient is almost identical, nothing to worry about.

Yes, but Roubaix was a good old fashioned concrete jobby and London has those shiney boards.

At at Roubaix I was knackered and could gently go round, whilst in London I'll be expected to go for it. It has humiliation written all over it.

Concrete wood what's the difference.

Having been to Roubaix London will in no way intimidate you.
You'll be able to show off to your mates, ride round the top line and swoop like a pro.
Simple-pimple you'll smash them.

You're quite mean. :lolol:

Do NOT try to go up to the top of the boards Hamilton. They are almost vertical at the end. Roubaix, in comparison, is a bit like Preston Park.

Actually, DO try to go to the top of the boards. :)

How can a conversation so funny be mean?

I'd love to see the look on his face when he first walks into the middle.

In all seriousness though Hamilton, you'll be up the top within 15 minutes.
You won't believe it's possible when you walk out, but it is, and you will do it, and love it.
