Anyway, did you watch your road race today then? I just saw the last few km here:

[yt]RCYAoO-1Lts[/yt]

I was there. I had cycling heaven for a whole week with the Mitchleton Bay Classic for 3 days(5 minutes form home) then an hour up the road all the nationals were being held.

That's one great thing about cycling, you can get so close to the event during it and all the riders after it's finished.

Tarmac road surfaces would not exist if it wasn't for the motor vehicle , so why do the Lycra louts think they have priority when they make no contribution through taxation to the system?
Would it not be perfectly logical to tax cyclists to fund improvements in their network in the same way motorists are taxed to fund improvements to roads?

Probably becuase every time a lycra lout gets on a bike they aren't contributing to the pollution levels in the area they are riding in. There's a carbon trade off like scheme right there. Pay less tax for poluting less. What an incentive.

I think I might have to take the wise words of George Bernard Shaw on this one...

"I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get all muddy, and besides, the pig likes it."

In other words " I'm wrong and can't be bothered to present a reasonable case in my defence so I'll quote some daft crap and do what I love to do as a cyclist think I'm better than u"
Small tip if u want to be loved, stick to the Highway Code, red means stop and don't undertake and be surprised if if u get squashed.

Nice one  I was willing old Cadel on whilst watching that video. I'm not a Gerrans fan, mainly due to his disrespect towards Slagter last season, but have developed a soft spot for Evans.

I suppose TDU is just a tad too far for you to go and watch roadside? I'm looking forward to it and especially keen to see how the bloke in my new avatar goes. Could be the start of something big.

So, they are both set up.

Use this link to go to the Leagues page.

Regular League ID is 77324
Purist League ID is 77325

If you want to run a team in both leagues you will need to use two different log ins, as us non premium paupers are only allowed one team each. I will certainly be running a team in each to help make up the numbers.

Can we reply to this post to keep it moving through the thread for the next few weeks, please. That way it will make sure everyone sees it who is likely to join.

Are watching ch 5 now ?
I've just watched it on FF.
An amazing, shocking and quite remarkably bad, ill thought out, badly presented and frankly dangerous programme.
Fookin idiots, every single one of them.
'and I think I can train anymore to do an endurance event in 12 weeks', well clearly you can't.

Oh and learn the lesson Bold!!

Well that was quite interesting. Gerrans was always gonna win that against those two with a team mate as well wasn't he? Thought Cadel would have had a dig at some point, he seemed to just leave it to Porte. If they (Porte and Evans) had taken turns to attack they may have broken it up.

Yep, always Gerrans to lose in the end. Bit of a formality really. I can sort of see where Evans was coming from, in that Porte was doing all the attacking so if Cadel conserved knowing Gerrans had to give chase then maybe, huge maybe yes, but just maybe Cadel had a glimmer of hope in the sprint given that he can put in a half decent sprint of sorts when required.

Thanks for this P

I'm going to miss the transfer fun in many ways, but at the same time looking forward to the different challenge of going purist and having less things to fit into limited time. I think it means as a purist I'll be on a level playing field with the VIP's too and that matters to me. I came in the top 20 nationally last season I think?, definitely 2nd placed pleb overall - so had the playing field been level I reckon I could have challenged for a spot inside the top ten. Mind you, that was last season - every chance of being top of the flops this time around, even on a level playing field.

So that's all three 1066's going into purist league only. I gave the mini's the choice of either league, dropping out or even doing both leagues, but they went for Purist as they were sometimes finding it difficult to make time for transfers. All three team names will remain the same as last season.

I was kinda hoping Porte might win it for someone different. GreenEdge has a huge advantage in the nationals though in terms of numbers and ability to ride a tactical team race to get the winner.

Yeah TDU is a little bit too far away! Will get a campervan and do that tour one day though. They get pretty good fields these days for the race. Will be interesting to see what the temperatures will be when that starts.

This is the temp spread nation wide at present. Chances are they will be riding in days of 40oC+. My eyes don't work well, who's in the avatar? Looks a bit Caleb Ewan like?

Bounce!

I'm in. There are now confusing normal and purist tabs but the latter is only for premium players. I have a feeling the time of free play may be running out!

I've just tried opening up the purist TDU competition and I'm getting the same thing :( Not sure quite how this will work out then.

I think I'll have a look around the forum there and see what I can find out. If I can't work out how it's going to work then I'll start a thread to try and find out.

Yep, big Greenedge presence I see and therefore ability to control the race.

I remember reading that temps are likely to be very high for this TDU. Rather them than me is all I can say.

Damn, was hoping you might have clocked the avatar. With fantasy picks starting now I didn't want to give too much away you know  Your eyes seem to be working fine though

Iv'e seen him ride 5-6 times now in person and he is a little pocket rocket. When he stands next to an average sized rider he still looks small. Must only be 5 foot 4 or 5. I can see him developing into a high level cyclist.

TDU will be interesting for him though given he's riding on the U/23 team against professional teams.

I don't think he'll do a real lot in the TDU, have you seen the line ups? Easily the best field this race has ever seen. Some serious quality going around this year.

I think it doesn't matter for our purposes but we might be excluded from the purist leagues overall as we're not premium players.

Yep, top line up. Always the question though as to who's here to race (they pretty much all claim to be of course) and who's here to just get some early season race miles into the legs.

I'm surprised to see Slagter not showing up to defend his jersey. Some interesting team transfers during the close season too.

Anyway, good startlist layout here as always, for anyone who's interested: http://www.procyclingstats.com/race/Tour_Down_Under_2014-Startlist
