You pipped me! How did visconti get so many points?

I'm trying to work Visconti's scores out too. He was 3rd highest scorer on the stage with 29 pts.

12 pts for 9th place on the stage
4 pts for 2nd in KOM

That must mean he picked up 13 intermediate sprint points today, or there's another competition or jersey points I don't know about. I don't think most aggressive rider pts are being awarded, and even they were then Cav would have got them today as he took every intermediate sprint going and won the stage. Seems odd.

This might come in handy should a 'geek' cap ever become available.

I'm very well, thank you.

Had to send the bike back (wrong colour  ), but Evans were very helpful.

Got an e-mail saying that my 'new' bike was being assembled in their workshop, and would be dispatched within 2-4 working days. (Just a shame it's a bank holiday weekend!)

Also a new helmet ordered.

Dauphiné starting next Sunday and the route looks very interesting. No prologue and kicks off with breakaway medium mountain type stages. No out and out sprint stages so it'll be guess work there. TT in the middle and the serious climbing to sort out the GC contenders comes on the final weekend. Should be an exciting race, but a bugger to pick a fantasy team for I expect.

Is Mark Cavendish the greatest ever sprinter? If not, who is?

I don't think i've seen a sprinter as 'explosive' as him. He wins sprints often without a great lead out unlike, say, Cipo, who always needed a 15km train-ride to lead him out..

Yes. He's also the best male cyclist Great Britain has ever produced. Would be in the top 3 greatest sportspeople this country has ever seen too.

All the voted on accolades he wins in France, Belgium and even Italy would suggest there is no doubt.

My body did not want me to out this morning. I had to take a breather up the steepest climb and the last climb felt quite long. Quite a few passing suspicions that someone had sneaked up on me and tied something heavy to the back of my bike too. I could only cruise the final 4 miles or so. Nearly drank both bottles. For about 5 seconds after getting off my legs were a bit wobbly; haven't had that for months. Despite all this, the time was only about a minute worse than my slowest ever for this route although I didn't stop for a slash. All in all a good ride and a step in the right direction. I am going to feel utterly funked later. Getting out of bed tomorrow will be interesting.

I've not seen any:-

'had he been fit, Wiggo would have won', mentions.

I don't image we are likely too either, other than from the man himself.
Finally the conversation has been had.

Simon Brotherton asked it of Rob Hayles on the simplistic daily Giro update podcast from the BBC.

Rob tried his hardest to talk it up, but eventually he was quite clear that Brad wouldn't have stood a chance.

Now might be a good time to share another cycling funny. This is true. I recently saw a chap, maybe early twentys riding through RTW one lunchtime with a stereo attached to his bike. The speakers were on the seat stays and he was treating everyone to Fleetwood Mac's Everywhere. Not even @Meade's Ball could make that up. I'm still wondering if it really happened.

Still not feeling funked yet. Maybe I need to do more when I go out. But weather not looking food for any blasts out midweek. Arse.

My new brakes - no over the bar moment but a certain slide forward on the seat as I came down the cat 4. Much better.

Cleaned up my chain and gears today. Also a quick clean generally with supermarket budget fragrance free baby wipes. I expect you know this though.

Cav is unique, I can't think of another sprinter (ever) with his sprinting position. He looks like he's riding a motorbike, he gets lower than anyone I've ever seen. I watch all races on Flemish or Dutch TV and it's just great to hear them being so complimentary about a British cyclist.

Abdu is the only one that pops straight in my end. He didn't even used to look up (hence the rapid introduction to the French policeman!).

The British will never quite get the nuance of cycling sprinters but the continent rightly love him.

I've kept Cav's epic Champs victory on 'video', the one where he won by about a km.

I love watching it with the camera tracking along side him, fan-blooming-tastic.

Today the Stat stable got a full 5 hour, strip down, scrub up, degrease, regrease and rebuild.
They are now still both down the other end of the lounge, but I'll stop looking now as Gillian Anderson is on the telly.

That was brilliant, the side on shot makes him appear from nowhere. He makes the others look like they're standing still.

I have a feeling he could be on for 6 stages again this year.
