Lights fit in with the elastic band which , initially, does not seem too bad at all, once I had worked how to do it. As all the other fixings for bike lamps are naff (in practice) I'll see how this one works.

Although it says it is waterproof, I have never found a cheap light yet that is. So taking it off and one is imperative. Review says the lamp runs very hot (to be tested)

This is for cycling without street lamps when there may be hazards (but not for cross-country mountain biking) and OTT for cycling around town and down the pub. Then the pound shop may have the best deal. These cheap lamps keep breaking, but so do expensive ones.

We left a light on at work on the desk and within 5 minutes it was very warm, not sure if it gets hot hot as we didn't leave it switched on any longer.

In my opinion you can't beat knogs for town riding. Self fitting so no need for bracket.

Knog | Buy Knog Products at Wiggle

I've got the beetle on the front and skink on the back. Got a separate lezyne light for when I'm on the country lanes, although does make me more visible on the hectic daily commute from central to east london.

cf. Best LED Bike Lights For Road Cycling - BikeRadar

I am looking for the best buy back light now. I am not so sure my front light was a very good choice. Fitting it on the bike is tedious and the bike has to be left in a safe place with the lights on.

This https://www.serfas.com/products/view/669/referer:products|index|lights|tail-lights looks to be very very easy to fit almost anywhere if the seat post is not an option, and whip off again and pop in your pocket. Looks to be plenty bright enough (the knog blinder just seems excessive and bound to piss a lot of drivers off unnecessarily), waterproof and best of all, USB rechargeable :)

I'm considering giving it a go to back up my cheapy. I predict it could become a very popular light here. Cheapest I've seen it so far is here: Cycle Lights

Great comparison guide for front lights here: road.cc light testing data 2012

Chose the lights you want to compare from the drop down menus...light 1 vs light 2. You can also move the dividing bar in the middle left or right too.

Thought about this thread on the way home tonight as I followed a cyclist along Preston Rd in the dark. He looked like he took his cycling seriously what with his helmet n'all, but his clothes were all dark coloured and surprise, surprise - no lights!

After sorting through by selection of broken lights (including stupidly expensive makes like Cateye) I splashed out on a

Pellor Waterproof 4 Mode 1200 Lumen CREE XML T6 LED Bicycle Outdoor Sports Light Headlight...
Sold by Kldeals £30 inclusive (this is more than the bike cost).

Battery life is hardly five minutes: about 25 minutes top whack. Not enough.

Just right when it works, enough to see by but the batteries ran out before I could test the route in real darkness. Recharging now, but it takes over 25 minutes back and forth on the pub run, so it is only good enough as a second light for the dark bits.
