I watched some old William Hartnell shows from the early days of Dr Who (he was the first Dr) and they looked really corny and amateurish. You could see the household objects turned into props, and diving suits spray-painted with silver, and realise that they obviously used toilet plungers on other planets.
Amusing to see, but those were, after all, early days for what-has-now-become a stalwart, trusty and endless series.
555kaz said:Know exactly what you mean, have just watched Rememberance of the Daleks, with Peter Davison (yes the one with Leslie Grantham) and some of the props were awful then, let alone now. Was from 1984 I think, compared to "Day of the Triffids" from the same era

The kids watching the new Doc, are oblivious to the fact that this has all been seen and done before.
Saying that, I expect a lot of stuff was nicked from other things that preceded the original show anyway. Cybermen probably came from 'Metropolis', and other ancient sci-fi (like Flash Gordon) will have provided ideas too.
