[Misc] CVs with photos.

Just looking over so CVs now as my department has a job going (mine, actually). It struck me that I've never seen a single CV that comes with an image of the applicant where the applicant is not either a bit of a looker, or thinks that they are. Actually thinking about it, I've never seen one from a male.

Is it just me? I don't work in recruitment, or anything like it, so perhaps I'm way off the mark.

I've almost never seen a cv with a photo on when people have applied to me for a job - which is weird because most people's LinkedIn profile has a picture. Then, about 2 weeks ago I got a cv with a picture on! When I opened the thread I thought this might be a discussion about a new trend.

The one I got certainly wasn't a "looker", it was from a bloke in his 50s.

It’s a big thing in Eastern Europe where I do a lot of my work. Depends on region and job role

Unless you are an actor or a model then no. Our HR pre-filter a lot of non-essential info from CVs before we see them, so name/gender and ethnicity for example don't figure in the selection process even subconsciously.

There was a period of pics in CVs a few years back in the banking industry but it didn’t last very long…….with the anti discrimination policies in place in most organisations even knowing an applicants age and gender is now often excluded at the screening stage, let alone seeing a posed soft-focus profile shot

Really common in Germany. A lot of online application forms ask for them too. I find it weird, but as was previously said, I have my photo on my LinkedIn profile, which is referenced in my CV.

And that's kind of my point. It doesn't. If anything I have to remind myself not to be prejudiced against those who have included a photo on their CV and to make decisions based purely on their potential to do the role. So what benefit do those who use them see in them?

I'm struggling to know what benefit a photo would have on a CV ? The reviewer should be concentrating on the skills and employment history of the applicant. Mrs WS was once asked for a photo by a recruiter when she applied for a role - she rightly told them to do one.

Yes,I see what you mean.
It actually puts the interviewer in a difficult position.

It almost needs the employer to state for applicants not to send photos with the CV otherwise it could cause a few issues for the employer.

It does seem odd that someone would send a photo of themselves with a CV.
The only thing I can think is the applicant sees it as putting a face to the CV so it feels more personal when the employer is reading it.

or maybe they think it will put the employer at ease if they know what the applicant looks like before they walk into the interview room.

Another reason could be some sort of social anxiety issues where the applicant feels more comfortable if the potential employer knows what they look like before the interview.

A more sinister reason could be people hoping to trap a potential employer by sending a photo and hoping they get rejected so they could claim they were rejected because of their looks but I don't know how this would stand legally.

It certainly creates a bit of a dilemma for the potential employer if they do receive a photo.

I agree, but if you have a certain skin colour, you can jump the queue.
If you are of a certain age, you get shredded, and if you have cleavage, you are shortlisted for at least 2 interviews.

We now live in a materialistic and woke world.
