I'm intrigued that you appear to address me as a centrist based just on that question. Suggests you're spoiling for a fight. The problem is, lots of centrist people seem to be under the impression that left wingers "supporting" the BBC would make any difference. No, we're totally powerless and illegitimate, the people centrists need to appeal to are the people you spent five years putting into power to defeat us. Good luck!
FWIW I supported Corbyn, usually vote Green as I can't stand the New Labour policies of my local MP and cannot stand Keir Starmer or the FBPE luvvies on Twitter.
However how can you possibly look at the situation and think "The left would fare better without the BBC"? Internet news is dominated by right-wing cranks. The print media and commercial TV stations are owned by right wing billionaires. That's where the BBC's general audience would find itself turning.
I don't disagree with many on the left's feelings about certain BBC journalists and programmes, particularly in the lead up to 2019 election. In fact I formally complained about Newsnight twice. But from a pragmatic standpoint the answer is to reform not get rid, not to mention the fact that the BBC is so much more than its political commentary. Those on the left celebrating its possible demise remind me of those that voted for Brexit, which many of my friends did - thinking that free from EU neoliberalism we'd create a socialist paradise rather than hand unconstrained power to a bunch of right-wing sociopaths.
