i know, but he hasnt impressed anywhere else, maybe mcghee will give him a runout against bristol rovers in the cup to see how he performs. how long does he have? 3 months? or a year?

You obviously never saw him at Barnet then? Currie has more passing ability than virtually any player in the bottom two divisions and even without trying very hard has looked quality.

The difference this year is he'll need to work his nuts off to prove he can cut it at a higher level. That's the only question mark.

Of course, players that huff and puff a lot will always catch the eye and pacify most of the critics because of their 'desire', even if it's wasted energy because there's no end result. Currie's just got to hope we've got enough fans shrewd enough to appreciate his creativity and accept that he's not particularly quick or aggressive... but judging by some of the stuff on here tonight after ONE game, the prospects don't look good!

I won't judge him on the basis of one game. I've seen him play against us for Barnet and didn't see anything different yesterday from what I've seen before. He's a creative player but immobile.

However, the level of his quality is summed up for me by the clubs he has played for - Shrewsbury, Wycombe and Barnet. That suggests to me that in his lengthy career no other manager has seen enough quality to suggest he can cut it at this level.

That doesn't mean he can't or won't cut it. Obviously as an Albion fan I hope he exceeds all my expectations and sets up goals by the hatful when Leon is back. Let's just say my hopes aren't raised too high.

I reckoned Currie was alright. covered the wing well and read the game - so a maybe he was a bit more defensive than people where expecting. His passing was good, if sometimes a bit adventurous, something i thought the whole team suffered from.

I was dissapointed with him. Not once did he take a player on and beat him - and i don't think his passing ability made up for it - as his passes weren't THAT great. I personally think he is a 'luxury' we can't afford and would much rather have seen OGH playing. If Currie is to play, i think i would rather see him tried out in Central midfield or even a sweeper where he could have the chance to dictate the game more.

David Lee was very good at Weymouth.

It's funny how Biscuit says give Lee a chance though he's having a go at Currie after one match.

Why not criticise Butters or Harding for gifting Reading 2 goals?

Im just pointing out that Currie wasn't exactly on the pace for the Reading game. I havn't said drop him right away...so I am giving him a chance.

Afterall, he put in the cross (which was great) that set up jakeys goal. All Im saying is I'd like him to get fitness and run at players like Lee or Hart would.

Currie will gain fitness if he gets a few games under his belt. Yes, he did tap the ball weakly to the opposition player but it was on the edge of the Reading penalty box. Hardly fair to say he was responsible for the goal. I thought Dan Harding was more culpable for one of his naive pieces of play. He should have knocked it back to the keeper rather than take the guy on - it was a far safer move.

Didn't Currie supply the pass to Robinson for the second goal?
Were you there?? he gave the ball away in an attcking position in the centre of the park which allowed a Reading player to play the ball forward to Forster which put Harding in a position he couldn't recover from. Currie is another Mike Trusson looks good without the ball making runs covering attackers runs etc but with the ball at his feet..............

Harding had ample time to put the ball away anywhere before Forster took it he just made a mistake deciding what to do with it.

You critisise Currie for losing the ball but nobody seems to have picked up on the fact that their 2nd goal came as a result of a p..s poor header by Cullip straight across the goal to Little (Reading 7 ) best player on the field.

currie will hug the touchline, which gives us width, like jarrett does. however, in the first half we just ignored them out wide and the amount of space they had

Currie is a table footballer.

We may as well have played Hart. Or Lee. At least those two are fitter.

A mistake IMO to offer him a year.

Yes I was there and the said incident happened just in front of me. It was no more than 10 yards outside the penalty box from what I remember (although haven't watched it again on TV) Harding could and should have cleared the ball rather than try to beat Forster. It was unfortunate that it came from Currie's weak play but he could not be culpable for the goal - it was Harding's fault

right mark my words Currie will prove a decent signing, where are the threads entitled Harding a quick whinge? To say he is a luxury player is insulting to the man himself all this after one game and a few pre season games. He will prove his worth come the end of the season.

Hinshelwood's cross, actually. I thought Currie did OK but we need someone on the bench to come on for him after 60 mins.

No, that's wrong. Reading's second goal was a sweeping passing move containing wonderful touches that we could do little about once they had got on top in midfield. It was Harper who found Little, who crossed for Foster to set up Harper - great football, a lot of one touch stuff.

It was the first goal that Cullip was arguably at fault, both him and Virgo messed up headers that allowed Kitson in - sloppy stuff.

But Cullip from then on was brilliant all game, as I thought was Harding but for his one galling error.

What got me was the guy charged the ball down as though it was a rugby match ..Ref was behind and missed but the linesman wasnt ...
on a cheery note .. i was sitting in the West stand with my brother in law ..it was so great to hear the massed ranks of bha clearly outsinging the reading .. a credit to you all

I blame Kuipers for the third goal - could have come out and made it more difficult

(Avtually, I don't balme him THAT much - but it seems like we've all got to slag someone off....:) )

Currie was ok slow out of pace and not sure how to link up with the team that was very evident.

and it was him who lost the ball in attack very easily and then reading put it up field and scored.

not a great performance by him but his crosses where good put barret in right at the begnning of the second half nearly scored

a few games and the team will be very tough to beat well done boys

must get fit currie if you are to stay in the first team...

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Steady on its only game 1 and people are having a pop !
Give him time, need to see him at home when we will have more possesion etc
After half a dozen games we will have a better idea.
